What Computer Windows management program is she using? Mac, WinXP, Vista, KDE, Gnome, Xfce, XFWM? They all have different methods for getting rid of files.

OK go to the Start menu and open click on Search. In the search window just put in "aol" and just below in the search criteria tell it to search in "files". It may take awhile, but it will return all files with aol in the name. You can then hi-lite and delete any aol file that you want.
Sorry I didn't phrase that well. But the search engine in the start menu will search all the files on your hard drive with "aol" in the name. On a WinXP machine if my memory serves right this morning.
I should fire up a Microsoft emulator before opening my big mouth. But I haven't had my coffee yet.

Deleting AOL files that way, Kirk, won't get rid of the registry files. That leaves a lot of unnecessary stuff behind.
Best bet is to go to Start/All Programs and scroll through the list for AOL. There should be an uninstall utility under AOL.
The other way is to head to Start/Control Panel/ Add/Remove Programs and remove AOL through there.

She already said that they had gone through the control panel etc. And I am certainly not going to suggest to a Microsoft user that they go anywhere near their System Registry, or Dynamic Link Library. I'd much rather that their machine get sluggish. Until they can have someone competent look at it.
It does no real harm. After all, they have Microsoft already. And have been living with AOL.

As Jason Said that is the only way to remove any program from your computer. In the Control Panels Add/Remove utility, sometimes programs like AOL try to get you to use their repair utility?
MY vote you want it gone, use the add/remove…… Anything else if fruitless exercise.

Sorry, you'll just have to buy a New Hard Drive. lol
AOL is the most pervasive virus ever programmed. In fact it rewrites 87 system files to it's own liking, so that it will NOT be deleted.
I believe there is a shareware program out there that somebody developed JUST for the attempt to delete that AOL puppy!

For the brave (the alternate spelling for that is "stupid") , reload the operating system , after backign up what you don't want to lose. This only works of course if you have the operating system disks that should have come with the machine.
Sometimes they can be made from special files that are on the hard drive.
Look around.

If she's gone into add/remove, how does she know there are still files lingering? Which files do you know for a fact are still there? Need to know this.
I agree, AOL is like a cancerour tumor in your CPU.
