Tim Russert Dead at 58

Excerpted from the New York Times:

“[Andrea] Mitchell also paid extended tribute to Mr. Russert’s as a journalist, the longest serving host on the longest running program in television.

“Anyone who ever substituted for him on the vary rare occasion when he was not on ‘Meet The Press’ would be ‘overwhelmed with the obligation of living up to the Russert standard,’ she said. She described the preparation process, going through anything that the guest had said, comparing and contrasting the person’s prior statements and trying to ‘find the wiggle room.’ As the guests knew, she said, ‘they would have to brace themselves for the ‘Meet the Press’ primary,’ which came before the so-called money primary and before Iowa and New Hampshire.

“‘It became the gold standard of political journalism,’ she said. ‘He did it with humor and grace.’” view link

Just coming here to post it.

How sad. He seemed a very likable and intelligent person.

I'm in shock. So young. I've watched MSNBC all day and witnessed how respected this newsman was in the eyes of his friends and fellow workers. Makes you wonder about the value of every day and how unexpected death can be. I know we'll all miss him.

He was admired by many, myself included. No matter how late I was out on Saturday night, I was up in the morning for "Meet the Press". He has left some mighty big shoes to fill.

One of the few talking heads worth giving a listen, once in a while.

Tim Russert, will be greatly missed by a lot of people. Prayers for his family. He was one person I could take what he said as the truth. Great man.

It has been such a sad weekend for all of us news lovers. I respected him so much. He was one of the few TV people who could pack a punch in a nonpartisan manner.
The NY Times has a piece on his successor and how many people it will take to fill his shoes.
I have a nominee for Meet The Press moderator. My choice is Gwen Ifill. What do you think? Who is your candidate?

I'm a fan of Gwen Ifill. Bill Moyers would also be good. Though neither may be willing to leave PBS.
