Problem In My Life

I was just given a written notice saying that as of July ST no pets allowed.Scooter is my child. Well I've lived here since Sept 2006 and got my little Scooter April 2007.The only choice I see I have is moving. I will never find another place this cheap,it's apartment owned by a nursing home.Really owned by 5 doctors. It has a landlady that manages the apartments, also. She comes around to everyone and gives them this notice. There are only 2 dogs,2 birds, fish tank and a hamster. In the whole apartment duplex's of 20 apartments. I am applying for senior apartments but because I'm a ex felon I don't think I will be able to move in those. Not if they do a back ground check. State people don't believe in second chances. Sonic knew when they hired me, I was a ex felon and she's about the only place of business that will hire us kind. She hired me right on the spot, too. As long as a person does his/her job and hasn't been in any kind of trouble since, I think everyone should get a second chance.I know some of you wouldn't approve of second chances to felons, but some might feel the same way I do.
Well if I have to move, I moved into this place filthy,I'm leaving this apartment just as filthy. The white refrigerstor was a light brown from the last tenant that smoked like a freight train for 3 years.I had to cleaned up this place, to make it livable for myself. As mad as I am right now, if I knew she was in the wrong I would buy a lawyer and take her to court. i signed no lease just paid the first month rent and moved in. So she really don't have to give us 30 days notice. Time will tell what happens in the next few weeks. I'd love a prayer for me. Please. That I find another home for Scooter, myself and Tommy when he does get to come home.

Second chances I absolutely believe in... I am sorry these people are such scoundrels... I hope you can find something... I understand about not being able to qualify for things because of being a convicted felon... have you looked into having your record expunged?

Try to remember that you don't really want to stoop to other people's level... you've already climbed your mountain... let them wallow in their own muck...

I wish you the best of luck!

Perhaps, you can get them to waive this decree for those who had pets when they moved in and it was not forbidden. If Scooter has not caused any excessive noise or destruction, then they should have a heart. It so doesn't work that way often, but I am hoping that you can get them to reconsider.
As for second chances, it is just so wrong not to give them. After a person pays as far as the court is concerned, no one should just out-of-hand refuse to give them a job or rent to them. Without a means to live decently and take care of their needs, what will happen. Many choose crime again or become homeless. Why would we want more commiting crimes and living on the street if it can be prevented by allowing them to work and prove themselves. Common sense, please.

Oakie, I am so sorry to hear this...I hope everything works out for you...I would investigate a little more about keeping your dog...you've had the dog in your apartment for over a year now and I don't understand how they can do that especially since you have given them no problems in the past. Did you have anything in writing about having pets when you moved in? You are in my thoughts and prayers and I too believe in second chances.

I am beyond mad at the way that you are being treated!
Everyone does deserve a second chance.

Is there a Tenant/Landlord Court where you live? Even if it is month to month, you may still have some rights.
Or you could go to Legal Aid, I think they help people for free or very little cost.

Check on the internet for Senior Services in your area, even ex-felons have rights and should be helped.
Also there might be some sort of outreach program for ex-felons.

Scooter is part of the family and maybe you will be able to find a better place to live with him.

Also, I know that right now you are very upset and rightly so, but don't leave the place filthy just to get even, if they check refrences or something at a new place, you don't want that to be an issue.

My heart really goes out to you & Scooter my friend, try to be positive and hopefully things will go ok for you.
Sending you some positive energy and hope, Dot.

Cathy
you are in my prayers, too. Don't let anyone take advantage of you-do the research and find out if anything can be done by your chamber of commerce, your town hall, the police-someone has to have an answer to this dilemma.

Keep yourself, Tommy and Scooter in perspective. Remember when God shuts a door He opens a window!!!!

You do need to do some research. I know that here, in the state of NC, even if it's a month to month rental, the landlord has to give a 30 day notice to move. And they may grandfather in the ones that already have pets, so you can keep Scooter. The local library may have the books you need to get your infomation from.

I think everyone deserves a second chance.

Everyone screws up and if they learned their lesson paid their time then h--- yes they deserve a second chance.
Since, you don't have a lease, I understand you don't have a leg to stand on but they should grandfather in the one's that are already living there with pets.
Good luck!
It is so hard as it is these days to survive with out all the extra stress.

This is what the notice says" Effective July 1 2008 there will be no pets allowed at the apartments NO EXCEPTIONS. A new lease for the apartments will be sighed by every tenant starting with your July payment.
Now I found out tonight that the birds, fish and hamster can stay. Just dogs and cats have to leave. Now you thought I was mad today. I'm furious now. Tomorrow I'm going to the court house and ask the DA some questions. The secretary and asst DA knows me since 1998 paying fines from when I was in prison. Oh I have them paid off for a long time now.But they still know me. And if they can't help me, the lawyer across the street might be able to help. Then to the welfare dept to talk to legal aid. Oh this lady isn't going to sit back and let landlady get away with this BS. If I still have to move in 2 weeks I'm still going to see if I can take her to court for discrimination or harassment. Cathy gets what she wants or till I can't go any farther for help. My neighbor Betty is also mad at this situation and she doens't even have any pets. Well unless you call roaches pets. And yes we all have them. I didn't till the new neighbor moved next to me.And I lived here since sept 2006 and not one roach. Now I see one little one every morning. And where there is alittle one there's a momma somewhere. LOL
And your all right. There has to be SOMETHING or SOMEONE that can help me.
