Quiet Here

It is quiet at this site. Does that mean all of you are enjoying summer vacation? I am into my second full week at home now, just beginning to come out of the exhaustion-induced coma I have been in since the last day at school. I've rested, read, relaxed. I've been a hermit, not wanting to see or talk to anyone. But now, I'm ready to do something fun! So teacher friends, how are you spending your summer vacation?

If I remember correctly, the activity here really picked up during the summer months last year.

My last day was June 6. So this is my first week off, however, I haven't been sitting at home. I went to training on our new liturature series, what fun that was. Then I have to inventory the computers for the principal. Of course I am getting paid for this. Next week we have to due curriculum mapping for the first nine week of school, what fun, we will be paid. Then I am off to a technology conferenc the end on June. My mom is coming out in July, that is when I finally get to have some fun. We are going to San Fan or Vegas. And I forgot I have to train some teachers the end of July, I will get paid for that. So in a way I will be working part of the summer.

Tomorrow is my last day at my "real" job; then I have a wonderful summer school gig. I teach 2nd and 3rd graders in a gifted and talented program. I get to teach a class I invented where the kids turn books into plays and design costumes and sets. The parents pay tuition, the kids want to be in the class, we can go on field trips, the program is half days and only lasts 3 weeks and I get paid well....what more can I say? After that, I plan to go on-line and pick a last minute vacation destination.

I just renewed my teaching license for the final time before retirement, so don't have to take courses. (After retirement, I hope to take lots of them for fun and explore new subject areas). I jumped from school into caregiving for my friend who was post-op and her family. Nine days later, I hit the road and put 1600 miles on the car over a 2-week period re-connecting with family and friends. Now back home, I'm working out, getting routine medical things out of the way, doing bits of prep for next year, reading, riding the bike, eating on the porch, socializing, and generally having a life. Thank goodness for summer!
