As some of you may have seen on National TV, the midwest has been pounded by torrential downpours in the past few days. Flash flooding is occurring in many of the midwest states, including Wisconsin. My hometown area is in southwest Wisconsin's 'Driftless Area', which means it was untouched by the glaciers. Yes, a very beautiful area with its hills and valleys. But, when huge torrential downpours occur, runoff from these hills raise havoc in the valleys below with ravaging water flow. I'm in my hometown of Soldiers Grove now to see the devastation that has occured. Ironically, even though they called these "100 year floods" because they occur about every 100 years, the SAME thing happened last August. It's so sad to see these residents just getting their lives, homes and businesses back in order, only to see it happen again this summer. I've placed some photos I took in my reply..
Thanks for sharing Dan...sad indeed and yes that is beautiful country there....when its not flooded....was there a coule of years ago now...we so enjoyed the landscape... There is a lot of flooding South of us in Indiana right now....
I've been following the flooding on the news...its terrible! I watched a beautiful home being swept away by an angry river. My heart and prayers go out to all those who are effected by those floods. Thank you for sharing your pictures with us...
Thanks for posting the photos. If you're up to it I'm sure others would be interested in seeing more photos. Hopefully they will be the town being put back together again. Good luck to all!
Thanks for all your thoughts and comments. The local CBS affiliate in LaCrosse has some good amateur photos and videos posted. Go to the below site look at both the PHOTO and VIDEO tabs. Search (upper right) on Soldiers Grove.
I'm sorry for all the flooding in your hometown. I hope that everyone can recover as quickly as possible so they can get the lives back. I'll be praying for them. Thank you for showing us what has happened.
Sad subject but beautifully done photographs. You've brought back one of the great gifts of photography. That is to function as a witness to events that occur. Personally, I love images and photographs that tell a story.
I hope that you are doing reasonably well inspite of the flooding.
