Fighting Rejection

I am reaching the end of my third year in real estate and find myself focusing on the rejection aspect of the business and not on the positive side of real estate. I have had two successful careers prior to getting my real estate license. At 60 I very much need to work but I am affaid my attitude is getting negative. As you all know being upbeat and positive works better in sales. I could use some positive advise from others in the RE field.

Rejection is a concept,a belief that we can choose to reject. Real Estate is such a challenging field because it feels personal when people assume we are liars and make too much money for what we do.That is the belief they choose based on some agents who have no interest in being ethical professionals doing shoddy work. I too am in my third year and what I find is that the thoughts I have will direct me in a positive work mind set or make me feel resentful and lazy.Soooo, I am trying to insure that I present myself positively, keep busy doing things that are useful and take care of myself.

Offer your services to successful agents and find a mentor. Hang on, most things happen for reasons outside of our control especially how people make their decision.dk

i can understand your feelings - this is a difficult biz - after all if it were easy everyone would do it! seriously, you have to be your own cheerleader and focus on the positive everyday. i get up early and read books or my email subscriptions that talk about positive things and energies. open yourself up to all the wonderful possibilities that your day can bring - one of the great things about this profession is you never know who is on the other end of the phone or an email request.

i've been doing this for ten years now and have just completed my first year in business with my own firm - talk about challenges!

have a wonderful day - who knows when that next million dollar buyer will walk through the door.

HANG IN THERE. LIFE IF FULL OF REJECTIONS BUT THE GREAT PART OF IT IS THAT YOU ARE IN YOUR LEARNING TIME WHEN YOU FEEL REJECTION. THAT MEANS YOUR AT THE PEAK OF SOMETHING GREAT!! SO KEEP YOUR HEAD UP AND COME WORK FOR MY COMPANY. I'M A NEW BROKER BUT I KNOW THAT THERE IS ENOUGH OUT HERE FOR ALL OF US AND WE JUST HAVE TO BELIEVE IN OURSELVES TO MAKE IT HAPPEN. YOUR STRONG TO EVEN ADMIT THE REJECTION SO "SMILE" AND KEEP LAUGHING.... STRENGTH

I'm now in my fourth year as a Realtor. I consider myself full time, hold open houses 2-3 times a week, do the internet, farming, just completed SRES (Seniors Real Estate Specialist) etc. Just in the last few weeks I must have had at least 3 big dispointments! I have been lazy the last 3 days to enjoy the holiday with my family and friends. But, tomorrow is Monday, time to move on and say next which for me is letting North County,San Diego known I now have my SRES Designation!

Firstly, thanks for sharing that detail. Rejection is what it feels like...but, truly when you stop and think about it, we all act in our 'own best interest.' So, these folks simply don't see (or feel) at this time that you fit into their needs...that doesn't mean you won't - it's about developing relationships for both the short and long term.

Doing one thing positive each day that takes you out of your 'box' a little bit stretches you, and...challenges you to continue to do the business - perhaps not in a way that you figured it would get done. Make a promise to yourself that each day you will encounter and engage one person in a dialogue...doesn't have to be real estate related...but weave it in! (read, prospect...I don't care if it's at the grocery store line; the gym, the pharmacy; buying gas, leaving a card for the waitress..anything!)

I don't care if you are on a plane, train, bus or by foot...referrals are also the name of the game. Remember, people buy and sell with people the like, and/OR respect.

When you think you are 'rejected,' remember that you just don't fit their needs. Find someone(s) that you can fulfill their needs...VRY, PJK

The bottom line is to get clients to sign an exclusive buyers broker agreement, if it's a buyer. If you get an exclusive listing, representing the seller of a property, you are proteted by it. I've been doing this for 5 years, and believe me, you'll save yourself a lot of grief if you tell people upfront that you'll only work wth them if they use you exclusively. If they say 'NO,' then you avoid wasting time, and getting kicked in the butt later on. You'll find out PDQ who is 'real.' Good luck!

Hi!
No need to be discouraged as I have been in real estate about as long as you have been now. It was scary at first, but I opted to do Open Houses every weekend in my area which brought clients my way. It took about 6-9 months before I did get busy and have been busy ever since. I find that keeping in constant touch with potential clients is very effective, these have all been via emails. I work with internet clients from all over and when they come to Las Cruces, New Mexico, I make the time to spend with them and only them. As you may know by now our area is really hot in the real estate market, great place to live as well as great weather. So I guess that is a positive and it brings clients our way since we are the #1 company here in the city and we have over 100 agents. If I can be of any help to you please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
PhyllisJ

UNFORTUNATELY, ONE CAN HAVE A LOVE HATE REALTIONSHIP WITH THE REAL ESTATE PROFESSION. REJECTION IS A HAT THAT REALTOR'S HAVE TO WEAR AT TIMES. IT HAPPENS TO EVERY REALTOR I KNOW....I AM IN MY 8TH YEAR OF SELLING REAL ESTATE, LOVE IT DEARLY! AT TIMES I WANT TO THROW MY HANDS UP BUT THEN ALONG COMES A GREAT SALE AND I'M OFF AND RUNNING AGAIN. DON'T GIVE UP, YOU ARE EXPERIENCING NORMAL FEELINGS. WE HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO FLOURISH AND PROSPER, AND DO SO ALONG WITH JUGGLING OUR PERSONAL LIFE, WHAT OTHER PROFESSION WILL ALLOW US TO TAKE A VACATION, A DAY OFF, ETC. (YOU MUST PACK YOUR LAPTOP AND CELL PHONE OF COURSE) AND STILL BE ABLE TO MAINTAIN YOUR TRANSACTIONS AND BRING THEM TO CLOSING???? WHICH IS OUR PAYDAY!! I DON'T KNOW OF ANY, DO YOU? SO TIGHTEN YOUR BELT, PUT YOUR CHIN AND AND GO KNOCK ON SOME DOORS OR DO SOME FARMING, BUT DON'T GIVE UP. MAY I ALSO SUGGEST THAT YOU PAL AROUND WITH THE TOP PRODUCERS AND POSITIVE MINDED AGENTS, THIS WORKS AS WELL. GOOD LUCK AND MOVE FORWARD!

Both the real estate and travel industries have one thing in common.
The product becomes more important than the people it's sold to.
I've had a travel company (not an agency) since 1968 and have offices
in seven countries. I have what the industry needs, not those who travel.

Got involved in real estate about three months ago and approached it in
the same way but found that most who hang around the periphery and
pretend to care about it are all BS. They can't handle the big stuff but say
that they can. I can sell all the properties that Citigroup owns and that's big.

Can anyone show me a broker who could handle that? I doubt it and have
had them tell me that their investor can buy up to 500M worth of property.
That's ridiculous and if they think I would believe it; also stupid. Just like the
ocean, the shark roams far and wide and the customers know it.

Don't ever deal with people as individuals but follow a script that treats all
fairly and gives them what they basically want. Of course personality helps
but only helps so much. Offering what's wanted does the rest and if people
believe you're giving them what's wanted you do nothing but win.

I have always had ,in addition to my "career" job, a home based business selling something. In the HBB world, you are faced with disappointments and rejection all the time. I have learned that it's not about you - it's about the person you are trying to sell to. It's not the right, time, place, item etc. for them. It has nothing to do with you or even what you are offeringto sell them.
To cope, I always say my silent prayer, that the people who need what I have be sent to me so that I can help them. If you are not a "prayer" and some of us aren't, just make a mantra up - to say over and over -like, I am open and receptive to finding just the right people to buy this house - or something like that. Have you been on The Secret chat? Lots of good stuff there. It works.
