vandalism to grave

In my last post I mentioned two cherubs I have on my late husbands grave..to represent each of my babies I lost to miscarriage years ago.

Last weekend my mother in law stopped by after she visited my late husbands grave. (her son) In her hand she held a small angel figurine. It was one of the angels I had on my husbands grave. It was shattered..the head cut off and wings broken. I was upset when she told me the other had been broken too but she left it there because it wasnt as bad. She was hurt by this too. I left to go visit the grave and clean it up for the weekend. To my surprise..when I got there I found the other angel had the wings broken and the feet snapped off. I couldnt find the broken wing pieces. I picked the pieces up and brought them home and threw them away. The miniture rose bush I had planted there had been pulled up from the ground also..but I was able to replant it. I hope it survives. The wind chimes I had there were pulled off their strings and the birdfeeder was gone.

Why!? What would make a person even think to do something like this?! Someone did this and just had to know they were going to be hurting someones feelings! How can people be so cruel?!

oh dear NanaBeany.... How cruel some people are!!! HOW thoughtless!!! HOW could they not know the pain you would feel?
So far we have not had any troubles in our cemetary;; but a friend told me over the weekend to NOT put any valubles there cause she heard there was vandelism recently. But I think EVERY thing is valuable(even a lil stuffed monkey..or engraved Bear);;; cause it is with love and memories we put any items on the gravesites.
I thought it was a wonderful remembrance for you to put the two cherubs with your husband.

There is no reason to such random vandalism. Careless, thoughtless, heartless people! I am sorry that you had to have added pain by this sensless act. Pray for them that they may realize that they cause pain to other people and that they may ask forgiveness.

Extra special hugs to comfort you.

Nana, there is just no understanding of why or how some people feel the need to vandalize cemeteries. It is sad and happens much too often. I guess it is just a lack of respect for other people.
I am so sorry that happened to you. I thought the cherubs was a sweet gesture and so meaningful for you and your husband.

I dont mean to question what you and your friend found when you visited the graves, but I do have a question only because this same thing happen to me and my relitives at the cemetary our family is burried at.we at first thought it was vandals and theifs but turns out we were way off base,we noticed the the damage that was being done was by none other than the grounds keeps / or the people that they hire to weed wack and mow.we had noticed after a period of time that it was always after they mowed that the stuff would come up missing(broken and pitched away to hide what they had done) or just plane broken to bits and tossed back on the grave,I guess no matter what way it was done it was done with careless actions, when ever I tell my daughter I am going to my sons grave she always makes a mad dash to the cemetary before me to make sure all is well and I wont be upset by anything. In anycase I am so sorry this happend to your angels.Hugs Kim

I don't understand why some people damage things on a grave. I have had a wreath stolen from my son's grave. I also have a garden flag at his grave, that I change regularly, and a couple of times flags have disappeared. I do know that the groundskeepers don't move things to mow and use the weed trimmer, and that damages things, but what I have had missing, is just that missing, not damaged. Stealing from a grave shows such a large degree of disrespect. I know God will take care of the vandals in His time, in His way.

I'm so sorry. As a mother who has lost several infants I can almost imagine your pain.

As an old insurance agent (my license expired nearly 10 yrs ago so this is just a suggestion) Call your agent - homeowners coverage. Some policies have small amounts for gravestone restoration in case of vandalism. Again, small amounts and your gravestone sounds like it would cost more than any policy would cover.

It sounds like such a lovely stone. I don't understand the behavior either. Did you report if to your police dept. Won't catch anyone but if there is a pattern of desicrations in your area.....

Here in our small town of Creston, Oh just last week someone vandalized several tombstones. Some of these were really old. People have no respect for the property of others. I am so sorry that your husband's tombstone was damaged. It sounded very lovely. As someone else posted, God will take care of them in His own time. Some people are just so spiteful & hateful.

Over the years I've wondered why graves get vandalized. I asked a police man one time and he said the majority who vandalize graves are teenagers. They think it is funny, and they usually are drunk or high.

I think it will come back to haunt them one day when they finally experience the loss of a loved one. I hope it does, how cruel it is to destroy a grave yard. All you can do it try and repair it and hope some more kids don't come through there and damage it.

Hugs,
Ruth
