My Achilles' Heel

I write what I write to mask the pain
Like a circus clown caught in the rain
The smile slowly runs from my face
And I find myself in a familiar place

A place where laughter is shouted down
Inner voices circling staking all around
There is no reason to try and get away
They travel with me every single day

I have come to trust the thoughts I feel
Doubting myself is my Achilles' heel
What once held truth on solid ground
Is now mired in muck and tightly bound

Steady sinking deeper drowning in my mind
I feel around in the darkness hoping to find
Just one happy memory that I may save
To make me richer for all the times I gave

No it's not easy being that circus clown
Living where laughter is shouted down
But here I sit still writing with pen in hand
For this is where I will make my final stand

Don't pity me if these words you should read
For writing them out I surely will be freed
And when the sun comes up to start a new day
I am sure I will be writing in a different way

Can't have your highs unless you have lows
Let face it people that's the way life goes
Reach into yourselves before you reach out
Cause that how most good things come about
