Chunking

I think I may actually be the 'Queen of Chunking'! Afte selling my travel agency and then getting an unexpected lay-off from the company I thought would take me into retirement, I am now working part-time as a contractor for a large hospital (job ending soon). In addition, I do some freelance writing, babysit my grandsons, sell travel, do business consulting and have now stumbled into doing newsletters. Some of what I do is without pay and some for low pay. Only the part time job is decent pay and I am waiting to see if the job actually ends first or I just park my car and refuse to drive any longer.

I have applied to a leading health insurance company who is looking for experienced health insurance personnel to work from their homes.

There are a tremendous amount of scams out there, businesses that not only sound too good to be true, but are as well. But, there are some legitimate work at home jobs as well. Call center personnel, debt collectors and so forth. If you are experienced in the travel industry, there are hosting programs that will pay you commission and provide the leads to you as well.

I do find that the older I get, the less willing I am to play the politics that some jobs require. Been there, done that, got the war wounds. Life is too short.

I do have some work at home call center info saved if anyone is interested. Just shoot me an email. This is information that was featured on 'Good Morning America'.

Interesting......I have been working from my home office as a consultant/marketer since 1994. Yes, before I even had a computer! Only 'chunking' sounds a little unprofessional, no offense, but I think it might put some good companies off, sounding to 'cutesy'. When approaching a prospective client it's best to stand out as yourself, mature and competent. Run your resume and profile by some companies and ask for feedback.

Hi -- Just as an FYI, I'm not suggesting using the term "career-chunking" in any professional context, but it gets across the idea of identifying multiple skills sets in each person.

MJ, great post -- I'd LOVE if you could post the info you have and/or the link to the Good Morning America show. Many group members are looking for legitimate work-from-home opportunities.

Thanks!

Be happy too.

These links are actually from a friend of mine. In addition, my niece actually works for ChaCha right now answering questions that come to her via phone call or email. She is by no means getting 'rich', however, she paid the family's insurance after a couple of weeks. Every little bit helps!

In addition, depending on where you live, some travel companies also hire people to work via virtual office. It takes a lot of searching for those positions, so be prepared to spend some time doing research.

If you have any specialized knowledge, you may also want to consider becoming a guide for www.about.com.

Good luck to all!
