Meals

Speaking of cooking, Baja, what were some of the Laners' favorite meals/foods/treats as a children? I can remember having a tv dinner for the first time--I thought it was the neatest thing to have everything sectioned off in those little aluminum trays and dessert waiting in the center! Of course, my mom who was a wonderful Italian cook, used to shake her head when my sister and I gushed about them! Needless to say, we had them few and far between. :~)
Yes, I remember the first TV dinners too! My mom used to make a mean leg of lamb, her roasts were phenomenal and she used to make an eggplant casserole that was to die for! She was always trying things, and Christmas time, GOD she would go to town! Lace cookies, fudge, spritz cookies that she's let me help with, loads of stuff that came out beautiful! She also used to bake her own bread when I was really little. I have too many favorites of hers to even list, but when I was growing up there was always something yummy!

My mother was an awful cook. We had tuna casserole almost every Friday. The one thing she made that we liked was brownie pudding. When she made potato salad, it was potatoes and mayo -nothing else. Actually, kids liked that because kids are not so big on seasonings and onions and things.

What about you, jhhrn, are you a good cook now? What about your grandma(s)? I feel sorry for you!

My mom was a great cook; although she did not think so. Her Pot Pie was fantastic, much better than anything you can buy. So were her cakes and cookies. She even made beans and franks taste special.
