High Lipoprotein (a) reading

Hello All,

I just joined this group so this may have been discussed before.

My recent blood tests indicate a very high Lipoprotein(a)count.

Lipoprotein(a) is a protein that prevents the body from dissloving the blood clots which it is constantly making or we would bleed to death if we were cut. One of the symptoms of a high Lipo(a)count is ...sudden death.

I have read about 2 amino acids, (L-arginine & L-Citruline), that produce nitric oxide in the body which not only reduces the Lipo(a)count, but is suppose to do fantastic things for the heart and arteries. In some cases eliminating the need for statins.

There is a company I have just been introduced to that makes a liquid combination of both of these amino acids. BUT......it is a multi-level company and I am spectical of some of their findings and claims. In fact one person told me, that while doing web research, she found a report indicating a test with L-Arginine and a placebo had to be stopped because a lot of the patients taking the L-Arginine.......were dieing.

Does anyone in this group have experience with either of these amino acids being used to treat heart disease? Were the results positive? Has anyone found any studies on this treatment?

Again...if this has been discussed before I apologize for bringing it up again.

Thank You,

Talon

Hi Talon,

Sorry it took so long for a response, but I've been in the process of moving and my world has been pretty upside down for the past few months.

As I'm sure you know, our bodies are complex, delicate instruments. When they are functioning properly, man, what a machine. But, when something is awry, such as your high lipoprotein count it can be difficult to find the cause. Now, obviously, you went to your doctor if you had blood tests done, but you didn't say anything about what they were doing for the high reading.

Our bodies naturally produce amino acids and if they aren't producing enough of what we need, there is an underlying reason for it. Companies making claims of what their products can do are usually overselling, trying to make a fast buck, especially if its a multilevel company. If you want to try a natural approach over a pharmaceutical one, talk to your physician. Have him pull out his Holistic PDR. Yes, there is one and most physicians have one, they just don't normally use it. If your's doesn't have one, find a doctor who does and work with them. Mixing natural remedies with pharmaceuticals can be dangerous, so please, don't just try to "fix" this without talking to your doctor.
