New Lovecraft Devotee member

Greetings, folks. I am a new member, and have been asked to explain who, exactly, has had the eldritch audacity to join this august gathering. I am a sometime writer, always reader, who has been devoted to Lovecraft,Poe, King, Straub, Barker, Derleth, Dunsany, and Tolkien for almost as far back as I can remember. Ran home from the bus stop in grade school to catch Dark Shadows at 4 pm. Was completely taken in by Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, and Night Gallery. Read all the way through The Hobbit and LoTR every year for 2 decades. Still have collections of "Alfred Hitchcock presents.." lying around in boxes. Wrote to Clive Barker once (got an answer). Met Carol Serling at a farmer's market in Ithaca once. Have the America Library edition of collected Lovecraft, which I regret I can never have autographed (poor twisted man).

That's me.

Hope you are having a pleasant weekend. It has finally stopped raining, but I am stuck inside catching up on a work avalanche, while brooding on getting a decent job.

I too, am a fan of Lovecraft; my first was a collection of short stories that I got from Scholastic Book Services when I was in 8th grade. I love all of the old school horror writers; Lord Dunsany, Algernon Blackwood, some M.R. James. There are many writers who have take up pen to create their own stories in the Lovecraftian style - see "Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos" for new tales.

For those who haven't read it, I highly recommend "The Ceremonies" by TED Klein. It is a long, beguiling, and truly "Lovecraftian" tale, and I think one of the classics of 20th century horror. See the link for a synopsis.
