So many of us in that same boat... A wonder we don't capsize! Rest assure you've got some great company along the way. Walking keeps me in touch with my thoughts and the nature all around. A very good thing. Enjoy those boys!!!! I'm very happy for all of you. Be sure to get that BP under control... All the best!

Hello Tripp, Congradulations for your commitment to good health. You can do, walking is wonderful exercise. Linda
Here's to you. Once you make up your mind you can do it. Remember that; it is mind over matter. You can do it!!!
185 is a good target and there's no reason for you not to be able to enjoy that baby for years to come! The good news is that unless you have serious damage or health issues you have a very real shot at getting to 185 and improving your health and fitness.
I went from 240 to 180 over a 3 year period.....so I know it's possible.

That's the key: three years. Most people get discouraged after a month or two. I always say: look how long it took to add the weight. It's not going to melt away overnight.
As usual my suggestion is a combination of cardio, weight training and diet. By diet, i don't mean going on a diet. I mean a change in your eating habits.
Yes, it can be done. And when you do it your BP will come down and your knees will improve. I walk one hour a day and I use free weights for strength training. I agree with Ironguy 100%. A diet just can't be some kind of starvation and malnutrition program. One's diet must simply be good nutrition. I like to read labels and know exactly what I'm eating. I also like to count calories. I know exactly the number of calories that I need to be the weight that I desire. When I exercise more, I add more calories to compensate. I wintered well. Now, I have 15 lbs. to lose. Or, convert my love handles into muscle mass and keep my same weight. By doing it slowly, that time is spent learning how to be what I want to be. And, how to stay that way.
Welcome Tripp,
Rich
Im just a begainner but Ive caught the bug. I enjoy my workouts probobally 90% of the time. Its a good feeling to feel your health elevated every waking day, and knowing your gonna do every thing in your power to make sure it succeeds your expections.
Your at an excellent age to establish a long healthy life. I really hope you follow through.
Give your grand kids something to talk about. And make em proud in a new direction.
Hello Tripp- Congratulations on taking the first "step" in getting down to a comfortable weight. I have worked at a desk in a prison hospital for 17 years and just packed on the pounds. They crept up year after year until I finally stepped on the scale and was horrified. This was followed by increased cholesterol and borderline diabetes, a medical condition that's called metabolic syndrome. And it is entirely controllable and will go away with weight loss. So I've bought a bike (which still sits on the back porch) and started swimming when the weather cooperates. I don't need to look like a model- I just need to be inspired to get healthy. So I wish you much luck. Kristien
