A condo is not best for everyone

About 3 years ago I purchased a 1 bedroom condo, a fixer upper, there are some real draw backs though to owning one. First of all, their rules, you might wish to upgrade, put in some things like a dishwasher or washer/dryer combo, in my case, the washer/dryer combo is not allowed as I asked. Why do I wish to purchase a house? Well...no rules, I won't hear neighbors coming in all hours of the night, if I want a light bulb changed I can change it without having to wait months for maintenance to change it. I just recently had a squirrel problem in the attic, the maintenance company swore there was no hole, the pest guy said, yes there was, so they finally patched it yesterday. But omg, just getting maintenance to do anything here is a real hassle. Plus the condo fees they charge per month are not cheap.

My goal is to own a house, not even a big house, just something small and cozy. Now, I will be turning 57 this year and next year is when I wish to purchase one, sell the condo. My bf however is much younger and since he will probably be going in with me on the mortgage, I think my chances of getting approved for a loan are far better than on my own.

Anyways, just looking online for a house keeps me happy at this point and keeps my dream alive. I know I am in for higher taxes, and heating bills and such, but not having to pay a high condo fee on top of my mortgage will be great, and not having to get up early to move my car from the parking lot so they can plow in the winter, also will be a plus. I want a house so I can have a garden, grow my own vegetables, have a yard to sit in, get a couple of lawn chairs, have an ice tea, well...you know, the American Dream. I had a house before my divorce and am determined to save and get another, it may not be as big, it may not even have as much land, but that is ok. It is the little things in life that matter, and big is not always better, but having your own place to call home whether it be just a small place would definitely satisfy me. I'm actually looking forward to home ownership again.
