Hello and welcome to the group. So happy to have you here with us.
Well for me, and it sounds like we might be in the same situation. I turned to Acupuncture and Herbs - in the 4 weeks I have been going for Acupuncture treatment and staying with the herbs and such I have lost 6 pounds. Now for me that is a mile stone... I am insulin resistant diabetic, so my body just keeps on producing and storing it as fat.
I was thrilled to have lost 6 pounds and feel that now I am at least started on my way to lose more.
I thought of the lap band, but just did not want to go that route.
Again, welcome to the group!
Debbie
I try to view eating in a different perspective.....eat to live....instead of live to eat. Just know too that losing weight can help diebetes, asthma, knee and ankle pain and cholesterol levels. So look at losing weight as a way to possibly ween yourself off of some of the meds you are on (with of course your Doctors supervision) Portion control at mealtimes and drinking water between meals can curb your cravings hopefully.
Losing weight is NOT that easy and to keep it off is even harder. If it was easy....over half the population wouldn't choose to remain heavy. Good luck to you.
Some of your medications could be making you gain weight, or keep from losing. So many of them have tremendous side effects. I just found a website - its www.sparkpeople.com mostly about losing weight together. Maybe that would help motivate you. I haven't had time to go over the entire site but it seems really good. Also check the side effects (you can do it by just putting in the name of the drug and the word "side effects" in the address box) of your meds. Anything you can get off of (without compromising your health) would be great. And there are usually alternatives for modern meds but you have to research them alot because the drug companies have done everything they can to keep them out of the mainstream. Quick story - years ago I had fibroid cysts which were very painful. Went to 3 doctors (all men...the "honey I know how you feel" response - ha) - they said "yep you have them - live with it". Researched an alternative - took it (I don't recall what it was - something L----arginine I think) - they were gone in 3 weeks. Been taking supplements/alternatives every since. Good luck.
Hi and welcome, if it were me I would do everything I could to avoid surgery or the lap band. As was mentioned many meds have side effects such as weight gain. It's crazy but it's a fact. Try using a smaller plate instead of a dinner plate when having meals.I have gained more on "low fat" items than on the real thing.I avoid them ,just have smaller portions. Read labels like crazy and try fewer carbohydrates,
such as pasta, breads, rice and potatoes. God Bless
Hello all,
Great topic. I have years of personal experience with the scales ...
Diets are a method of short-termed gratification that a person gets frustrated with, yet having conversation about making changes (eliminating preservatives or eating only fresh or frozen foods) many would say, it sounds good, but not me - I couldn't imagine that much of a change. So make one change and experience the bliss. Make it fun! Then add another. Find the benefits and focus on being happy, healthy and moving towards your desired weight.
Are the choices you're making moving you towards your goal or away from it?
Water is key! Our brain is a composite of 85% water ... our bodies are 75%. We need 1/2 of our body weight in ounces of water daily. A 200 pound person's body to perform effective and efficient needs 100 ounces. I used to believe that I didn't want to have to be making that many trips to the bathroom ... those muscles will develop just like the other muscles. The water helps us with clearer thinking, our bodies more flexibility, and to move the toxins out (preservatives are toxic too), healthier than any other beverage; when stressed, a great alternative to reach for and when drinking any caffeine simultaneously drinking the same amount of water (in addition to your daily amount) as caffeine dehydrates. Pack a water bottle with you where ever you go. Run out - get more!
What are your thoughts? How much time do you give to thinking about your weight? If it's a lot ... consider focusing on what your other options are rather than the limitations you believe...
"The thoughts we think and the words we speak create our experiences." - Louise Hay
"If you do what you've always done, you'll get what you've always had."
At times I had thoughts of the weight would just leave (???) ... with little effort on my part. I was great for telling myself BS stories - I can't exercise today because .... or I'll do it later ....
My stories were an intricate part of my excess weight. The weight is only the messenger ... My thinking and actions had to change along with me being conscious to what reality is rather than the story I tell myself.
Cause and effect.
If I choose ice cream rather than a fruit smoothie I'm sabotaging my goal of being happy, healthy and at my desired weight. If I choose to watch TV rather than taking a walk telling myself "what's one day" ... it adds to me not keeping my word to me.
Louise Hay (excellent author) has a book I'd encourage all to read - "You can heal your life" ... it's format is self-help, filled with inspiration. There is a list within this book taken from another one of her book's - "Heal Your Body" - to learn possible correlations between dis-eases you may have had or are having now, probable causes and new thought patterns.
I have a wealth of information ... I'll share more if you're interested.
Happy day to you!
