New here

Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself.(more about me on my profile so stop by and say hi).I grew up in a canoe..just been away from one for the past 2 decades. Too busy working and making a living. Now it is time for me. As my husband is not much for boating I have decided to get one and just keep it at the state park near here for "just fun" and photographing wildlife.
I need to know what is out there now that would be stable and used on calm lakes.
Also considering a kayak small, stable and lightweight, but my heart lies with a canoe.
(figure I can transport a kayak easier).
Any advice would be appreciated.

If your heart lies with a canoe I think you should go with a canoe.
What makes you think a kayak would be easier to transport? I have 2 solo canoes and they are lighter than my kayaks - less than 40 pounds.
My husband doesn't paddle either so I recently bought an attachment for my Yakima rack that makes it pretty easy for me to load my boat by myself if I have to. (http://www.yakima.com/racks/kayak-rack/ product/8004018/boatloader.aspx)
As far as canoes you may want to look at the Wenonah Vagabond. One of my canoes is a Sandpiper. The Vagabond is basically the same as the Sandpiper but a foot longer. They stopped making the Sandpiper because the Vagabond became so popular.
I know there are many boats out there that would probably be good for the type of paddling you are going to do. You may want to check the reviews on paddling.net

Hey Spirit,
It's me again, the old man, 63 today. Listen to Patty27 she ia right on. You could also look up a strip canoe builder and have one built, but that would most likley cost more. See if you can rent one first b4 buying. Check with local outfitters or there may be a canoe club in the area where someone has solos you could try.
I'm in Duluth today at my daughters house. My son in law has the same birth date as me, so we get togeather each year and have dinner.
I dug her garden today and finished installing a new electrical service to her house. I has the new one in with a temporary to the old panel so I switched all the old circuits to the new on last night and this morning.
