Ouch!!! .... Not so funny!

What seems funny now was not so early Tuesday morning as I walked back to bed after visiting the bathroom with my cane. I had knee surgery recently and am still walking with a cane, which I am not all that used to. Well, in the dark, it seems I miss calculated and "stubbed" my, next to the big, toe on my left foot..."WOW" and "Ouch", did it hurt! Well, I didn't want to wake my wife, so I "sucked it up" and crawled back into bed, still in the dark.
The next morning when I took my first look at the toe, beginning to turn several colors and bent off to the left at an odd angle, I saw that it was either broken or very badly brused. Having had a similar injury a few years ago, I asked my wife to gently bend the toe to determine whether it was broken. I guess not, since she said it is only a bad bruse, it still hurts when I bend it and is very swolen.
Anyway, heed this warning...walking with a cane in the dark and inexperienced can be hazardous!

As a footnote: I also have severe arthritis in both feet and have very little feeling in them due to swelling...that is until I hurt them, of course...then "Ouch"!

I had to smile, not laugh at you. I am just now learning to use a cane. I am bumping into things with the lights on.

Hope your recovering goes smoothly.

depamphilis, don't you think it would be a good idea to keep a flashlight beside the bed? That way you won't have any more accidets. With condition your feet are in, you don't need and more "OUCHES".

You could possibly use a walker and let that hit the obstructions first. Once you are better go back to the cane. I switch back and forth all the time.
