Myths of Compassion and Stories

If you haven’t visited www.CompassionSpace.com within the last month it might be worth checking in again. There have been many additions to the site, such as, many book reviews, more links, a page for compassion stories, the “Helping Relationship Tree”, and an introduction to the “Handbook of Compassion”. In this introduction is a brief description of the seven myths of compassion. These are “stories prevalent in our culture that are shared”. They are ideas about compassion that are commonly encountered when entering into discussion with people about compassion, and they can become a barrier to both personal development of compassion and the movement toward a culture of compassion. I invite you to read about these myths of compassion, reflect upon them, and comment here.

There is also a “Stories” page. This is a page where people can submit a longer (several pages) story about compassion. This could be a story about a person, or about your own personal development, or about an event that you witnessed. There is an email button on the site so you can send the story. I would think that each member of this Compassionate Living group would have a story to share. The idea is to inspire people with true life stories of compassion within which they can see some aspect of themselves.
