That was a nice, sweet thing you wrote about what an artist is. But, on the contrary, I think artists are thieves. They are robbers of emotion and thought-after your soul. They want to capture it and hold on to it for as long as they can. They want to freeze your body, keep it under suspended animation, and only allow you to move your eyes. They don't want you to speak, they don't want you to hear, smell or feel ( as in touch ) or taste. They just want you to look, come under their spell, and to use your mind to control your emotions. They want to tear you in pieces emotionally by making you cry, smile, wonder, sigh, and scream inside. Then, like vampires, once under their spell, and after they sucked the last drop of blood from your heart, they want you to go out and recruit others in order to bring them to the same demise.
LOL!! BUt I don't see myself as a robber; I see myself as a healer! Once we've taken your emotions and pummelled them in to compliance, we return them to you healed; fresh and new, giving you xray vision in an unexpected part of your universe!
I'm not sure artists are sweet but I don't think they rob other souls. I think it's a quest to find your own soul.....if you find it, it's a lifetime of committment to keep it alive......if you don't, you sink into the masses.
It's definitely an emotional journey with ups and downs. Curiosity keeps it going. I see an artist more as a translator. Understanding the artist's work depends on whether or not you speak the same language. Some you love, some you don't. Doesn't matter as long as there is an emotional reaction. Artsey
Artist are all of that and more. I was watching the History channel and they were haveing a program about the lost tribes of Isreal. They only real eveidence of the Assyrians capturing and moving those people are from the artist. no written eveidence yet the artwork from the peoiod is like todays video tape of things as it happens! Look at the artwork from the mideval peoriod, it shows the way things were done also. I am sure that todays art also will show future generations how we lived and loved also.
It's great when people appreciate my work, it's a plus. But actually art is a selfish act to me. I'm driven to create stuff because I've got all these ideas swimming around that I have to let out for myself. I make stuff that will sell and put my best effort in to it but when I get a image of something I want create that's unique, it's almost manic the way I have to make it and see if it measures up to the perception.
