Question about process

Okay, I've been studying in preparation for getting Photoshop CS in the next few days, and looking at my own process. One of the things I have been reading about is SRGB vs RGB. To date, I have been shooting in RAW using a camera setting of SRGB. I know that for web based photos, an SRGB profile is preferred and that RGB photos wash out.

However RGB profile brings out a wider gamut of color which makes for a better photo when printed. Currently I have set my computer to read in RGB since I have a Mac.

Now to process. Here is what I have in mind, and would love to have input. I am setting my camera on the Adobe RGB profile and photographing in RAW. When I convert in my Canon software for editing to TIFF, I plan to leave it in RGB and edit that photo. I can save RAW and TIFF images on an external drive and dvd's so space is not an issue. But as a final step I plan to go through the edit menu and convert photos to be used on the web to SRGB and in JPEG format for uploading to flickr, eons etc. I generally save my jpegs in IPHOTO.

So I will have a RAW image, an edited RGB TIFF on file for each photo, and jpeg for web use. Any thoughts or suggestions? Oh and yes I am a fanatic when it comes to back ups. I know I do overkill there.

Thanks for the post, It sounds like you have really done your homework and your final game plan sounds flawless. I know that there are members that are well versed in this area. (PuzzleRose comes to mind)

I hope your post gets a flood of response. This is the kind of stuff I had in mind as a 'learning' group. Great Q and A.
