FMS Awareness Day
Bright blessings to all my fibro friends.
It is hard going through life having to pay dearly for everything we do. Our bodies and sometimes our brains let us down, but life is a journey, and this is just a part of it, not who we are.
I try to comport myself with dignity and good humor, but there are times when I end up sitting on my dignity because I've landed flat on my bum. That's where the humor comes in, and when we need it the most. One has limitations that demand to be acknowledged and coped with, and sometimes one just has to withdraw from the fray and take a down day. Don't pity us, we need your understanding and support, not your contempt and disbelief. When we cancel an outing or an occassion with friends or family, it's not because we don't want to spend time with you, it's that we have hit a wall and have gotten overwhelmed with pain, depression, extreme fatigue, or all of the above. We just need to regroup, so that maybe the next day we will function better, and not crash.
We're here to tell the world we're not victims, we're survivors, and do our best to maintain a worthy life. It is devastating to have people mistake our condition for fakery, or to be considered a malingerer because most of us look perfectly healthy for the most part. Our pain and aches and weaknesses are hidden, but they are real. They cover our psyche and our bodies like invisible bruises. We strive and struggle to do our best, we just have to do it a little at a time.
