Interesting conglomerate

This is a really awesome rock found in Michigan and around the northern Great Lakes area. It began as a sandstone conglomerate with pieces of chert including the varieties flint and jasper (black and red pieces). The glaciers picked them up moving south through Canada and dropped them on the NE side of Michigan. The Michiganders call them pudding stones. The coarse sands from the sandstone were metamorphosed to a smooth quartzite. They classified as both sedimentary and metamorphic. I give them to my first year geology students to classify and it really confuses them lol.

I would like to take you rock collecting anywhere you wish to go. Have you been to Yellow Stone yet? You will be amazed just as I at the awesome geology bubbling everywhere there........

SO now I know the history behind my puddin stones! We collect feild stone from an area farmer and use them to build walls throughout our gardens and we always save the puddin stones and set aside for special use as they are rare. Thanks so much for the information!!!!!
