figures lie...

I must have alot on my mind this evening!

Should we live our lives by statistics? Or, Should we live by the old adage, "figure lie and liars figure?" Do statistics help us make decisions or do they prevent us from taking calculated risks in our lives, thus depriving us of an element of surprise?
Oliver Cromwell once said "A few honest men are better than numbers." Maybe we should rely on the counsel of trusted friends and advisors than statistics?

Sustainable Data Services

Not sure how many members here would have occasion to use this company, but in response to the request to let the group know about companies committed to sustainability --

I just met the husband/wife team who founded a company called BackOffice Associates here on Cape Cod. They provide data cleansing, data merging, and database management services for companies that use the operating software SAS. BackOffice has about 300 employees world-wide and about a hundred here on the Cape. Their employees mostly fly to wherever the client is and stay there for a period of time to perform these data organizing services.

I just found out that they offer their employees $3000 toward the purchase of a Prius! And they are also erecting three wind turbines on their private residential property. One of them will more than cover their own electrical needs, and the rest will be sold, first to the Town to meet its electrical needs, and the rest to the grid for cash!

I'm not sure what else they do, but with those two measures, you can see they are a company committed to sustainability.

vacuum cleaner belt

I have a Eureka Express vacuum cleaner with a beater bar. I can't figure out how to take it apart to change the belt. It's a model 8274. The Eureka website doesn't recognise the model #!
