Coffee grounds

Hello all,
My daughter brought me 3 containers of Starbucks coffee grounds with a label stating they are for the garden. Not having any experience with coffee grounds in my gardens I'm looking for directions.

Thanks!
Glenda

I'd be interested in knowing too.. I'm a heavy coffee drinker and have plenty of grounds being thrown away..

I put mine in the compost pile, along with the paper filter.

I heard somewhere that the grounds are good for acidic based plants. I put some around my blueberry bushes but never noticed much of difference as I'm not a big coffee drinker.

when i can get it, i mix it right in with the soil. it works really well on tomatoes. i cant see throwing something that cool away.

I use mine, to feed the worms in my compost pile! I also, use them in a bucket with water...let it steep in the sun. Water your plants with the water! It gives them a boost just like us! LOL
You can also give your houseplants a boost, by taking any leftover coffee, mix with water and water them. My grandma used to do this. She also steeped used tea bags, to water plants with. Always water the ferns & afican violets from the bottom with tea water....another tip from grandma!

I too put grounds and filter paper in the compost. Coffee should help to acidify soil, which is great if your soil is alkaline. If you live where the soil is already acid, you should check with the extension service to see what they recommend.

up here in northern nj the soil is clay. so i added all kinds of amendments via mostly critters. so now its acidic. but the woodstove and the ashes have balanced it. its easy to do, if you just keep adding different stuff to the pile.

follow mother natures lessons, and just keep adding everything you can, and it comes out perfect.

or get chickens, and the compost pile becomes mute.

My mom used to soak eggshells in water and then use some of that to water her houseplants. I imagine it provies calcium and sulfur.

my mom just put the egg shells right in the ground. but i read somewhere to grind them, so i did. i ground them in a coffee grinder, makes a powder. you can put right into the soil, and it amends it. and desolves much faster due to surface area.

try it
