How is the economy affecting your life?

Tell us about how your money situation has changed -- or stayed the same -- in the last few months.

What's your biggest financial concern?

I'm still trying to recover from the last recession and I may be getting thrown back to the wolves. I expect to find out late next week if I'll be losing my job and that's scarier than hell. I work for my medical insurance and can't take just "any" job because I'm uninsurable on my own....I take numerous medications, one of which does not have a generic equivalent and would cost $160/mo without insurance (and I have to fight with my insurance company to get it filled). I live in a state that's been economically devastated for the past several years so the job market is all but non-existent and I recently became disabled (although my doctor has told me it probably would not be recognized as such for SSI) which will make it next to impossible to find a job. I can't move out of state (been there, done that and my family would disown me if I did that) and don't have the money to do it anyway.

Ain't life grand!!

Biggest concern....my hubby is the little guy. A self-employed Home Improvement contractor, we depend on folks doing extra things to their homes & swimming pools. Well, in this income situation who knows if there will continue to be $$s for these extras. We have been blessed with work & a waiting list for years but in the coming year...who could predict. It is very scarey when there is no salary..only $ earned by jobs we sell. Very Nervous!

This Trickle down effect that we all are getting because of the price of GAS is crazy. We are retired and on a fixed income and if it keeps up we might have to find a job again. When you go to the gas pump and fill up and it cost over 75.00 that is really hard. The price of gas is effecting everything we do from the cost of food and clothing on down. We really have to watch what we do now and when it comes down to running around and doing things for pleasure that is out for now. I guess the thing that gets to me it is like they don't see what is going on here. People can't afford to do things for pleasure like they used to be able to do and that is sad. When you are retired you don't get raises so you have to stretch your moneys out to last. I know that things go up in price in time but to go from 2.40 for a gallon of gas last year this time to almost 4.00 a gallon something is really wrong. AND then we have these OIL companies posting these BILLION DOLLAR profits COME ON!! And my hubby retired from Chevron. Trust me we don't get a break!

I work as a consultant - that works well with my caregving responsibilities. I found out this week that the company I am working with will not start any new projects - I have maybe two weeks work to finish up my projects. It will take me awhile to find another job that will accomodate my schedule. They are keeping my office so that is a good sign but I may be living off "savings" for awhile.

the price of living is out of this world!! I dont know what they expect people to do, our ins, is not the best so we had to start going to giant eagle to get a lot and my neurologist does not want to switch me to a cheaper drug that would be a generic well i am beginning to think if he wont switch i may have to switch to a different dr!!
the price of gas has gone so high a person wont know what to do? buy gas, meds, groceries!!
we decide to cancel our vacation that is a big luxury now adays!! it seems like you work for years and years and this is what we get!! My mom was right there are no golden years any more! no one is going to be able to retire and enjoy a little bit of life.
i hope some one someday can help us out soon!!

Yes, I lost my job almost a year ago, and have no education degrees. I live in a very small town, where this is no opportunity, and my unemployment will be running out next month and I cannot find a job, and I'm 50 years old. I have used all my savings and now I'm really stressed out!!
