WARNING - Phishing Bots Trolling Eons

How many of you have heard about the newest mutation of phishing bots?

Oh? You say you never even heard of a phishing bot? Or phishing? Phishing is the activity of internet thieves that use various means to cull your personal information from your computer, such as ID numbers, PIN numbers, bank account numbers, SS numbers, etc. They use this to steal your identity and use your credit cards and empty your bank accounts.

Identity theft is a growth industry today, and is becoming a serious problem all over the net.

Software programs called Spiders crawl the net, enter your computer via your downloads, then roam around in your computer collection data.

The newest type of phishing bot (robot), has been developed specifically to troll social networking sites. It is a non-person, with a profile page, and even a photo, who contacts another member and tries to establish a relationship with that person, asking immediately for email addresses, instant Messenger contact info, home addresses and telephone numbers. This bot will usually give a false background story and offer an address and messenger ID.

This is an especially insidious piece of malware, because it is programmed to interact with your responses, in a somewhat generic way.

I have been the target of two of these in the last couple of days. It became immediately apparent they were phishing bots and not real people, when I got the same introductory PM from two different guys, with only some minor details changed. When I asked each one to tell me more about himself, I received the same response letter, filled with seemingly real details.

DO NOT EVER EVER EVER EVER PUT ANY PERSONAL INFORMATION ON YOUR PROFILE PAGE, OR GIVE OUT YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS OR INSTANT MESSAGING ID'S TO ANYONE UNTIL YOU HAVE ESTABLISHED A LONGISH RELATIONSHIP WHERE YOU GET SPECIFIC ANSWERS TO YOUR SPECIFIC QUESTIONS.

The two bots trolling me are: view link

Report any suspicious contacts to the Eons Help Team.

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance. Even a free internet has its dangers.

Thanks for the heads up. I've received many over the years but its mostly from people saying they are from African countries (Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Liberia...etc). They are very obvious because there scam is pretty much the same. They claim they have inherited some money and want you to help them invest it in the U.S.

Yes, MarketMama, he certainly is! Thanks for letting me know. My husband was ready to go to Sarasota and "do to him what was done to our male cat a few years ago," to use his words. Now that we know this, it'll save him the trip. :)
