Not sure

Hi, I am not working for the first time in many years.I now have the time to do something for extra money that I might enjoy. Trouble is, I don't know where to start. I am a dog groomer by trade. Not very practical as a part time business. Besides can't do it physically any more.

As for crafts, I am a Jack of All Trades Master of None. I Can do ceramics, some painting, many kinds of needle work, some sewing and jewelry making. BUT I don't think I am good enough at any one of them to sell them.

Maybe another route would be better, I just don't know where to start as my skills are hands-on work. Not office type stuff.

I hope there will be some ideas in here. If I sound confused, I am. LOL

Hi Ksilla, You sould a lot like me. There is not much that I can't do, craft wise. Nothing I won't attempt, but there is little I can do with it to make money, craft wise. I chose to work at something else to make my money, and then keep my crafts for personal enjoyments.

When you have knowledge or skills that someone else lacks, you have an opportunity there to turn your knowledge into money. You can teach what you know. You do not need to be a top-of-the-field expert, you just need to know more than the people you are teaching. You can look for some easy, small classes to start with until you become comfortable teaching. You can even start by volunteering to teach your craft to a scout troop or at a senior citizen's center or a nursing home. This is also a good motivation to improve your own skills, so you can stay a step ahead of your students :-)

Hi Karen,

Hope you're doing okay!

One way to9 deal with this is to make a list. One one side enter the possibility and then make a list of the good side of it in your opinion, and then the negative. Often this type of exercise with help you sort out what really interests you.

Take care!

Just a thought, but you must love dogs. Why not a doggie day care. I would have loved something like that when my beagle was a puppy. I had to run home every day at lunch and let her out. I would glady have paid somesome to keep her during the day and train her! I have seen places like this in large cities.

First of all, never underestimate your talents. Like Collieflower stated, there is always someone who knows less about a subject than you and would love to gain your knowledge. I have a small shop and find that half of my customers ridicule their own work and don't think they have talent when in fact there work is beautiful. Most of the money I make I do at home and sell at art fairs, maxwell st.days, beauty salons, church bazaars etc. People often prefer to buy from local people rather than give their money to huge corporations.
