Edited posts

I was going to just piggyback this on the end of the 'Deleted Posts' post, but I think it might need it's own post. As you know, we have deleted some posts; some for content, some for attacks on management, and some because they violate the group's rules, or the TOU. The deletion of posts with graphics is probably number one, deletion of posts attacking the group management is probably two, and deleting posts because of content is number three, and actually doesn't happen all that often.

Now, the reason I bring this up is that I post frequently on another site too, and I noticed a post that was really nasty and vicious. It was one of those where somebody starts out with a 'goodbye' note telling the group that they are leaving, and it quickly descends into a nasty attack on others in the group who are the alleged reason for the departure. Now here, depending upon the viciousness of the attack, we might leave it if it didn't attack specific members by name. If the targets of the attack complained we would probably delete it. At the other site, the manager of the group has the power to edit the posts of anyone! In this particular case, the manager chose to edit the post and strip out the nasty stuff.

One of the people named in the post who got the brunt of the nastiness is a very good friend of mine so at first I was happy that the nasty comments were gone. Then I started thinking.....hmmmmmmmmm...... is it really a good idea for the manager of a group to be able to edit the posts of other people? I would rather have my post deleted than edited. What to you think?

Its a nasty job but someone has to do it. I also see a lot of nasty remarks that are not called for. I can't see running and running one person down all the time. Its like OK already. We all have our own thoughts on things and no two will be the same. Maybe these people are afraid to face the truth and that makes them nasty or maybe it is because this is the only subject this person knows. What really pisses me off is having to read 3 pages of what someone else thinks and that is the post.

No, I don't think anyone but the original author should be able to edit. But it surely would be nice if we could edit our own after posting

I would rather have my post deleted, I don't want anyone interfering with what I write. I say let it stand as a whole or delete the entire reply.

Delete the entire post. No one but the author should have the right to edit.

I griped about that very issue on another site and got my head handed to me on a platter. I do not think the manager or anyone should be able to edit a post. And I think those that believe every one is nice and it wont happen has on blinders.

I wouldn't want my words edited by anyone but me so I say delete the entire post.

I would much rather have my post deleted rather than edited. What is the point of posting anything if everything can be edited?
