The passive/agressive

The 'Emotional Blackmail' post got me thinking about the personality types that we have to put up with. Although I don't have any emotional blackmailers, I do have some people around me who are passive/aggressive. These are the people who won't speak up when asked, but find a way to get what they want just the same.

You want to arrive at a function ON TIME (geeeze another topic there...) and agree to carpool with another person and she agrees to the time to meet. In actuality, she wants to leave a half-hour later so she arrives at the meeting place a half-hour late and tells you that there is plenty of time to get there. You arrive late.

.....or the person who agrees to go to a movie that, as it turns out, she doesn't really want to see, so she arrives at your house too late to catch the cheapy matinée and then complains that it's too expensive for her to go at the regular price.

.....or the one who will 'go along' with whatever restaurant decision is made by the group and then complains through the entire meal about how bad the service ALWAYS is and how bad the food ALWAYS is.....

I haven't met your wife Xradio...... at least I don't think I have. I must admit though, that all the passive/aggressive people I know are women. I wonder if they watched too many 1950's family sitcoms where the women got want they wanted by p/a manipulation of the husbands?

I remember some of the old Ozzie and Harriet shows that would have Ozzie doing some bonehead thing and Harriet would find a gentle and passive way to get him to do it her way. I see the way some of my friends talk to their husbands and they're not really doing that. They're saying things like...'What the hell are you doing? Are you on crack?'

Don't you just hate people like that??? They are never happy with anything and really can not make a personal decision and stick to it. All of the situations that you mention have one thing in common, all of those people are like middle of the road people. Never make a commitment, never actually tell the truth about a resturant, or movie or whatever just do your own thing and inconvience others just for the he** of it.

I agree with you, but society tolerates it so they think that every one else should too.

that dear folks is exactly why I choose to not have "friends" to do things/go places with---at this time in my life when I want to go somewhere or do something I want to do it on my schedule and don't want anyone else futzing it up!(lol)---

My whole family (of origin) has been like that for years. REALLY pisses both me and my wife off. If you ask one of them what they think about something what you get is
'Oh, I don't know'. If you ask something like, 'Do you want some dessert with that you get, 'I don't care'. But then, no matter how you respond, it's never quite right. Drives me batty!

Geez, you described my cousin in the main post. She knows that I'm positively anal (another hard to stomach personality, even if it is me) about time, yet she cannot just humor me ever once. Everything is done in her time which bears no resemblance to real life. She once drove me to a court case I was involved in in Philadelphia. You'd have sworn we were out for a day of sight-seeing.
