Went to the Hampton for a breakfast, had crab omelete with asparagas and fresh raspberries and a mamosia, the service added to the meal and leiserly eating and chatting with a special friend also added to the meal.
A crab omelete, wow...i love omeletes, crab, asparagus!!!!I have to make this one with a light cream sauce. Thanks oceanbreeze.
We went to a restaurant in the Los Angeles area, that is no longer there. You had to have the address, go into the parking garage, and look for the painted elevator. No signs, no idea it was there. Once in the elevator, it took you directly to the top floor. When the doors open, you stepped into an old world lobby, a long mahogany lined room with giant chandeliers and crystal coach lights.
We were immediately seated. The dining chairs were upholstered, high back wing chairs. The ladies were then offered velvet cushions for their feet. (so they could take off those 4" heels and relax for dinner)
Once we had chosen our menu items, the sommolier arrived, and we took his advice on the wine selections.
In those days, we were used to ordering soup, salad, entree, dessert. So we did. Oh my!
We were presented with a beautiful large bowl of bisque, in real china, and real silver service. It was already a surprise. And it was good.
Then, a cart wheels out, and we are asked to pick our own lobster for the lobster salad we ordered. That was when we started to realize that perhaps we had ordered too much food. Ten minutes later, when our soups had been whisked away, the salad arrives, the lobsters shelled, and completely reassembled on top of the salad in the shape of the lobster, where it was then drizzled with a little more of the dressing. It was to die for! And I am still amazed to this day by the skill that took!!!
The wine steward reappears with our dinner selection wine. Our dinners arrive. We are so full, but everything is so wonderful, we proceed to prove what gluttons we could be in our youth. And then dessert, Grand Marnier souffles. And an apertif, and a little coffee. If your coffee sat for five minutes, the WHOLE cup would be whisked away, and a new, hot cup, placed down. No topping off your coffee here!
The entire evening event lasted six hours! We counted five people as our wait staff, all in tuxs. Now, we had eaten in Captains rooms before, but this place took top honors. There wasn't one single thing to complain about. Without a doubt the most memorable evening ever!
