Cannabis and cannabinoids

Fibromyalgia patients frequently self-report using cannabis therapeutically to treat symptoms of the disorder.[103] Writing in the July 2006 issue of the journal Current Medical Research and Opinion, investigators at Germany's University of Heidelberg evaluated the analgesic effects of oral THC (∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol) in nine patients with fibromyalgia over a 3-month period. Subjects in the trial were administered daily doses of 2.5 to 15 mg of THC, but received no other pain medication during the trial. Among those participants who completed the trial, all reported a significant reduction in daily recorded pain and electronically induced pain.Previous clinical and preclinical trials have shown that both naturally occur
ing and endogenous cannabinoids hold analgesic qualities, particularly in the treatment of cancer pain and neuropathic pain, both of which are poorly treated by conventional opioids. As a result, some experts have suggested that cannabinoid agonists would be applicable for the treatment of chronic pain conditions unresponsive to opioid analgesics such as fibromyalgia, and they propose that the disorder may be associated with an underlying clinical deficiency of the endocannabinoid system..

I don't smoke it & not sure I could with my asthma but I do think it should be legalized.

I could have told them that. Even with all the medical evidence that reports the benefits of cannabis, over and over, the government still refuses to see it because they don't know how to make money off it. It's a shame that so many suffer needlessly because of it.

KULPN some folks use a machine to smoke it, some because they have asthma.

Of course I am in favor of legalization. Along with so many others.

I think the government would make money off it. They could tax it like cigarettes.

Dumb me. I had to look up Cannabis be be sure I knew what you were talking about. "Cannabis sativa". All joking aside. I could deal with the side effects (mentioned before). If I can reduce the pain I would be more active and as for the other, well the discussion about the adrenal system took care of that problem.
As high as tobacco is now, Cannabis could be cheaper than Cig. Looked on the net and did not realize they had so much about it. The next thing would be convincing your MD to let you have it as a Medication.

There is much information it on the NORML website. norml.com
It has been studied to death with the same outcomes. It helps sick people.

I know the cost seems high. (ok pun intended) but the benefit, to me, is worth it. Without it, I really don't know if I could have endured as long as I did.

There are many legitimate uses for cannabis and I think chronic pain treatment should be one of them. A good friend has macular degeneration and was on the verge of losing vision in that high. Her doctor told her (off the record, of course) that cannabis would relieve the pressure in her eye better than anything currently being prescribed. No more degeneration and her vision has improved. I absolutely think it should be legalized. I used to smoke to relieve migraine and severe tension headaches. I have not used it for FMS but on bad flair days it would probably be of benefit. I wonder if I would have side effects like wanting to listen to Bob Seger music while eating an entire can of icey fruit cocktail...Wait, that was in the '70's!! The major drug manufacturers do not want us to have this medication to be sure!

I wrote "in that high" instead of eye. The subconcious mind took control of my fingers...LOL!

Can you get a script from your dr. for it because I sure would like to try it and I wouldn't know how to get it otherwise.

My husband had macular degeneration and would have been nice to have it for him. Poor man really couldn't see very well at all last few years before he died.

I have a migraine today (3rd day) and would kill for some pot but don't even know where to get it & I'd be arrested, my kind of luck. So I took another Amerge that can interact with Cymbalta & kill me. If I die, headache goes away. Simple.
