"Stealth Settings" similar to Yahoo Messenger

I am not sure if this is even possible, but I want to bring it up just in case maybe it is --

When you chat on Yahoo Messenger, they have something called "Stealth Settings" -- you can make yourself invisible to certain people while being visible to others -- you pick and choose who can see if you are online at that moment.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could do that here? Sometimes I may want certain people to know that I am online at that moment, but I don't particularly want a specific someone else to know I am on -- I would just love it if we could also pick and choose which individual members can see us -- make ourselves invisible to people we may not feel like talking to.

I know, probably not possible, but I thought I'd mention it anyway....

I think that would be a great idea....hopefully someone from the technical department will come up with some way of doing it.

Oh gosh, I don't know if I am even favor of such a thing even if it is technically possible. It all sounds so "teenagie" to me.

We here on Eons are all "old" people. By this point in our lives we should have our stuff together enough to be able to say, "Yes, I was online and I did not answer your PM because I was busy chatting with someone else."...or whatever the case may be.

We may like to think of Eons as a nice, friendly, little community of our friends....but it is in reality just another part of the internet that is likely to attract some bothersome, boring people. It just comes with the territory. My advice is to learn how to deal with those people and stop hoping for a technical cure for human nature.

Interesting that three of the four responds to this post have their "blinky's" turned on, including the poster. What would this feature provide to you? If you want to talk with someone, send them a pm. If you want to ignore someone, do so.

Sorry, don't see any upside to this request, but hey thats just my opinion and I don't write the code.

I like to show that I am online because I have people that I "chat" with by PM regularly and I like for them to see that I am online.

But there is one person in particular that I just don't want to communicate with any more at all -- and I also don't like the idea that he can see when I am online or not. If I go invisible to everyone so he can't see then my "friends" won't know I am here -- but if I am visible to them, I am visible to him also.

Maybe when you block someone then they are no longer able to see if you are online then -- ??

And a corollary to this -- some sites make it that if you block someone, they can no longer see your profile at all -- I really like that idea.....
