Slowly...slowly
In a previous message I mentioned I felt "out of my element" by working in watercolor instead of oil. I've been attending a studio group & everyone is doing their own thing - mostly copying pictures from magazines or other public sources. Having had an extensive background in art, I will not do this. I prefer to work from life.
I decided to try my hand again at portraiture after many years of not doing it. I have a beautiful photo of my 5 year old grandaughter that I took of her almost year ago. I decided to take up my own challenge & work at it. I've been getting a great deal of positive reinforcement from other group members & feel encouraged by their remarks as well as what I see I've been able to do so far. I haven't told my daughter I'm doing this & don't want to until I complete a second painting of my 9 year old grandaughter. (I don't want anyone to feel less important.)
Now here's the hitch...My daughter announced on Valentine's Day that she expecting her 3d child in Sept.! Naturally I'm thrilled & you may be reading my mind right now... Of course - I am now committed to not only completing the portrait I'm working on, but also to do two more ! Maybe if I'm lucky & can pull it off & my daughter & her husband will receive 3 VERY special gifts next Christmas ! Hope I'll be able to keep the secret that long...:)
