Nayarit Riviera
Just returned from Easter break at Sayulita, on the Nayarit Riviera. My third visit.
Once again we stayed at the Casa "Suenos del Mar" owned by the charming Cecile. Since our last visit it has been completely redecorated.
It's a 2-bedroom apartment that comfortably sleeps 4, with an excellent kitchen and spacious lounge area. Just one block from the beach, so your dreams might be full of the sound of the Pacific surf.
We discovered to our dismay that Sayulita is going to be ruined by some rich b____ds from Guadalajara who intend to build 17 condos no less, on the north side.
Sayulita has almost no infrastructure (dirt roads, mainly) and little water - the locals spent years raising the money to buy a garbage truck - and the only water supply comes from rain caught and stored in the rainy season.
So you can imagine what's going to happen when these ugly condo towers go up with the inevitable Jack bloody Nicklaus bloody golf course consuming huge amounts of water. How I hate these types.
We intend moving to that area in the next few years but after hearing this, NOT Sayulita. We've located some land next door to the north of San Pancho close to the beach, it is pure hacienda-gone-to-jungle and the price is, well, a steal actually. There are still a few hectares left so we need to grab it quickly.
We'll build an eco-sensitive house with a guest house similar, catch our own water, have our own kitchen garden (the soil is incredibly fertile), provide our own power with solar and slow-speed (silent) diesel gen running off biodiesel.
On our final day we had lunch at El Crucero - at the crossroads of the main road with the access to El Monteon - chicken and melted cheese burritos and salad with a big fresh lemon drink, $35 (pesos) each! And wonderfully yummy.
By comparison the same lunch at Puerto Vallarta would have been around $180 pesos.
