No Cold or Icey Water

This probably is only new news to me, but I rec'd an email from one of my friends, who are looking out for me since I had a triple by pass last December.

Drinking a cold beverage with or immediately after any meal causes any oily or fats in the food to turn to sludge and slows down digestion, thus clogging your veins and arteries much faster than normal, leading to either or sometimes both cancer and heart attacks.

The article suggests that room temp. or warm/hot drinks be consumed with meals and to wait at least an hour before downing ice water, sodas, or iced tea.

I really never gave this any thought before, but believe me I pay attention now.

No, not at all true. By the time the water reaches your stomach, it's working it's way to body temperature. Cold water won't hurt you at all. This e-mail has been circulation the internet for sometime now. It's bunk.

Enjoy water, at whatever temperature you like it at, it's good for you.

Thank goodness I do not drink anything with my meals, period. Ocassionally, when I do not have oatmeal and fruits in the morning, I will have tea. Lunch and dinner I drink nothing. I usually wait one or two hours before drinking water.

I'm curious, Cel, how much water or water-based beverages do you drink over the course of a day. If you don't drink with meals and wait one or two hours after eating to drink water, how do you stay hydrated?

The body needs water to function properly. It insures that the organs are flushed and aids in the body's natural cleansing process. Not drinking enough will encourage fluid retention and bloating as the body attempts to retain all that it can to insure it's survival.
