we get "occurances" kinda like a write-up when you use more then 4 sick days a year! (never mind that they grant 10-14 sick days a yr.!)

that is like the policy we have here. supposedly only supposed to use 4 sick days a year. according to our policy if you are sick 3 days in a row with the same thing it is only one sick "day". and I guess they do "write up" or something similar if you take more. we don't have actual sick days we have PTO (paid time off) that we accrue for hours worked. whenever we take time off for any reason or for holiday pay the time comes out of accrued PTO so if you don't have any PTO then you don't get paid for a sick day. you can elect not to take PTO for sick days or holiday pay but must have enough hours saved up to request vacation time.

Ours is with PTO also. Wouldn't it be nice if we knew when we were going to get sick so we can request the days off before hand.

I work casual labor so don't get sick or vacation time. But I also don't have to worry about having enough PTO to take a trip somewhere. And I don't have to find someone to cover "my" week-end if I am on a 2 week vacation. And I don't have to work holidays unless I want to. Of course, I can't count on the hours and lately I have not been getting many at my primary hospital. So I have taken a job with an agency. Love the pay and the job is easy. Unfortunately, it is a temporary position that will be done by the end of April. Then I will have to start looking again.

so it sounds like it's the same across the board sk8...buncha crap considering the field we are in...and yes it sure would be great to know in advance of illness to get pto!

yes sweets it is a bunch of crap. just recently i had to wait 7 weeks and then back my manager into a corner to find out if I could get my requested vacation time off. and it was not during the summer (high request time) and no one else wanted it off. not a way to keep your staff satisfied.

What a co-incidence sk8...a co-worker was just complaining about the same thing yesterday..they seem to forget how important it is for us to be able to take the time to care for ourselves!

Well, I'm retired now but when I was working they used to tell us not to come in if we were sick. Then if we called in sick we got the third degree. If we called in 3-4 times we were written up and it was put in our personell file.
