Hi, everyone!

I joined this group a few months ago, and like others have been reading posts but this is the first one I've done.

I noticed a couple of questions recently about travel to France. I went to France in October of 2006 for a month, and I had a great time. If those of you planning on traveling there, if you haven't checked out gofrance.about.com, it's a great place to start. There are all sorts of advice and help on this website (there's also goeurope.about.com and goitaly.about.com plus I'm sure many others). I also use tripadvisers.com to learn about places to go and what to see and where to stay.

I will be going to Italy, to Fano on the Adriatic coast this summer to attend the wedding of the son of one of my best friends. Fano is in the Le Marche region and looks to be very lovely and not overrun by tourists.

Does anyone on this site have any recommendations on what to see and where to go? After the wedding, my friend and I and her sister are going to Assisi for two days before heading back home (England for them, Albuquerque for me). Any recommendations for what to do/see there also appreciated.

we took the train from Rome to Assisi one day, to see where Francis was from...I remember it was raining much of the day, the train ride up was ok...only scenic is spots...the dom is within sight of the train station...and you could walk...but I would recommend the taxi ride up...

we toured the basilica and then the upper shops, had lunch, taxi back to the train and back to Rome again...

for us, the 3-4 hours in Assisi were enough

Our favorite town in Le Marche is Urbino. It had been recommended to us for years, and we finally got a chance to stop there (and spend the night) in January 2006. It's more easily accessible from the coast than from Tuscany, so may be a good possibility for you.

You will have to take a plane first - Vancouver is near Seattle and Niagara Falls is near Buffalo New York!

Just returned from Paris and we had a 5 day transit pass so we could hop on a bus, metro train and tram as often as we wanted. If you are good at reading transit maps and schedules I strongly suggest an inexpensive way to mingle with locals, see the real areas of a city or country is to use public transit.

The system is used a lot by Parisians so the next bus or train is along very soon and it is an efficient safe way to go.

Tourist in Vancouver- You coulod also take the train to Toronto. If I remember correctly the Canadian Niagara Falls are there. I saw them from the canadian side and from the New York side. Fabulous!
