Greetings

Hi all,

I love to travel but my husband does not. I have traveled alone to Spain several times, but both times I enrolled in a language school. This was good because the school arranged for very reasonable housing, and classes were only a few hours a day, leaving me free to explore the surrounding areas for the rest of the day. On the weekends the schools offered excursions to more distant places of interest, again priced very reasonably. I actually managed to meet some great people my age and older, although the majority of students were college kids.
As nice as this was, I think I would like to try a different approach. Has anyone ever used one of the travel partner sites successfully? Seems to be a bit of a longshot..
Well, I'm looking forward to reading and contributing here.

Hi Serena,

Interesting post. Probably a lot of people are in a similar situation...i.e, a spouse who prefers not to, or can't, travel.

I looked into several travel partner sites. I found most of them to be populated by young (20's) people interested in backbacking. That's OK, but I was looking for a bit more refined travel.

I would be interested in hearing your degree of success with any travel partner sites.

Cheers,

Keno

Hi Keno,

Well, so far I have not had much luck with the travel partner sites. To be fair, I haven't been able to spend as much time as I would have liked researching them. Now that the semester is over, I am free to search in earnest. I have found two and I have found there are people our age very interested in travel. However, these sites are indeed dominated by the youngsters, and if you don't do a search that is limited by age, you will find yourself weeding through countless profiles of teens, twenties and early thirties.

Hi Serena,

Just out of curiosity, have you discovered any additional travel companion sites? I think you mentioned you had found two but they were filled primarily by much younger people.

Is ElderHostel all there is? Ouch! I'm not quite there yet.

Cheers,

Don

Your language school experience is of interest to me. I will be 70 next year and want to make another trip to Europe as my present to myself. Studying a language or art would make my trip more meaninful. Can you give me some links?

Hi, I too am married to someone who does not like to travel. However, I don't let that stop me. I find most of the groups geared toward solo travel are for those over 50, some over 55. I'm 49. I would love to find a group, whether in a social network or not, of solo travelers over 40!
