I don't know if I can remember that far back- CRS disease. My first quilt was about 1989 needed a Christmas present. Didn't have alot of money - so I made a quilt in day log cabin quilt for my mother and sister. Didn't quilt again til l991 when I was given a gift by a friend while I was going thru breast cancer.
Didn't finish it but started another one with my friend, Linda when we took a class another quilt in a day purple that's on my bed. That was 2000 maybe?
And I got addicted to fabric. I think part of it was that I remarried into a family of golfers and I wasn't a golfer but my mother-in-law quilted. Gave us something to talk about and of course always a good excuse to look for fabric together. We have found some good sops while w have been on vacation. That's my story
Hello all! This is a fun way to connect. I just joined EONS last week and have not shared anything about myself yet. I have a new digital camera and as soon as I figure it out, I'll post a photo. I became interested in quilting only five years ago when I worked at JoAnn's ETC when the store first opened. I worked back in fabrics at the cutting counter (they did not trust me at the checkout!). A lovely lady came in one day with a beautiful pieced quilt top and was looking for fabric backing. I took one look at that top and decided I wanted to learn how to do that! I bought a few quilting books/magazines and taught myself. Now five years later I have collected almost 100 books/mags, spent my cruise savings on a new Bernina with embroidery unit, and have become a fabricholic! I retired in January and now spend my time in all phases of the art of quilting! It's a wonderful life!
I started quilting at the side of my mother-in-law in 1980 or so. With my mom, I sewed clothes, but no one in my family quilted. Through my mother-in-law I learned the joy of color and fabric, although I came to prefer the higher quality cottons. She taught me to hand quilt.
I have just finished my very first quilt, and my second quilt, a wall hanging, hangs in my dining room.
