APATHY

Do you find this world (or people in it) apathetic? How so?

The classic response to this question is "I don't know and I don't care".

it certainly seems so at times. Did any of you see Primetime the other night where they did a survey where they sat a man first a black man then a white man on the lawn and then sent people to walk by (on an errand to make a speech on the story of the good samaritin) to see if anyone upon seeing the person crying would stop to help? Hardly anyone bothered to even look let alone stop to see if they could be of any help. It was pathetic! A person sobbing as if they couldnt face life a minute longer and hardly anyone bothered to stop. AND even after having read the speech of the story about the good samaritin and heading back to their car saw that person again and still didnt stop. I couldnt believe it.
They also did a survey by setting up two actor to play boyfriend/girlfriend and the boyfriend being aggressive and abusive to the girlfriend to see if anyone would try to help and again there was very few people willing to get involved.
So many people seem to be too worried about possible violence against themselves that they dont want to get involved.
I find that frightening and sad. And a shame.
I cannot imagine seeing someone in pain or trouble and not stopping to help in some way. I dont understand it.

Self-absorbed, wary, judgmental, isolated, irresponsible... people are many things. The heart and the mind have to struggle to overcome instinct, and I don't think human nature has evolved. But we also have the capacity for great acts of selflessness and the power to create much beauty, so I haven't given up hope.

Unfortunately this is a world full of apathetic people. However, there are just enough of us dinosaurs running around to keep it going. you know the ones . they get envolved even if it is not poplular or safe. who knows maybe we can enfluence enough people to change the way the world acts and thinks and for the better. I'm not naturally so apathetic, but I've learned the hard way that it is often best to stay out of it. It does depend on the situation though. If it were a child or a feeble elderly person, I would certainly try to help.

You hear so many bad things these days that no wonder people pass on by. It is then for me a test of faith because I believe that you can never be wrong by doing the right thing. So the crying person....if its one person, what can they say other than mind your own business. All you need to do is say "you seem distressed can I call someone for you?"
Two people fighting well, thats something again. If I had a cell phone I guess I would say " leave her alone or I call 911" from a safe distance haha. If I was with other people I might get closer and ask if she needed help. I dont know, that one I am not so confident about.
Apathy is wrong though and yes there is too much of it.

In the case of the "domestic" situation with the man standing over the woman and threatening her and verbally abusing her and pushing her about ALL of the men continued on...but the women stopped and said something and stood nearby refusing to walk on and one woman even walked up and stood next to the "abused" woman and said come with me i will take you home or anywhere you want to go. and walked away with her!
What does that say?
And to anyone that says they dont care...for shame....whats the point in being here if we cannot at least try to make a difference. Even if its just in a small way.
