Virtual Smoke-Off

prime rib

Well, I’m bittin’ at the bit for smoking season to come around. People have gone wild posting all these faux-cue recipes. I need some’um more’n this to live for.

Sure, we can’t all get together for a smoke, but that don’t mean we can’t have a virtual smoke off, does it?

We’ll each smoke the same thing and then lie to each other about how good it was! But it ought to be the same thing smoked, eh?

I still don’t think any of you puck poopers and such can match my Black Diamond! Not the electrics either, even in the hands of our “masters.” (I don’t know about Juste though?)

I’m talking’ smoking, not grilling with faux smoke or liquid smoke.

So here’s the proposal.

Let’s agree on a date for a weekend smoke-off. I think I’m flexible. Are we talking sometime in the first part of April?

See the following link for what I propose for smoking:

I’m not gonna get too detailed here. These are just the basics. Let’s see if anybody is interested. We can work out the details, maybe. It would be fun to smoke a prime rib and compare. And on a per meal basis, it don’t costs that much for sure?

Let’s get the conversation started.

The gauntlet has been thrown, I'm in :^) Sounds like a great idea Paddy! April sounds like a good time frame, lots of prep time there. We could even come up with virtual judging techniques. If everyone has access to a digital camera we could have before during and serving photos. Details on wood, rubs, prep, special techniques or no technique at all would be good :^)

Ladies and Gentlemen, start your smokers!

I don't know if I am up the challenge, but I sure will have fun watching.

Tony Stewart is my NASCAR guy, that is all the Smoke I will have today.

Maybe this is what I need to get up the "gumption" to fire up my smoker! Two years ago I bought one, put it together outside, haven't used it one time! I'm not real good when it comes to big fire pits!

Hey hart’, what kind of smoker do you have? Maybe we can talk you though using it.

What brand is it? How big? Is there a picture of it on a manufacturer’s web site we can look at? Is it electric, or do you use charcoal, wood or some’um else?

This iddn’t rocket science. Shucks, the first smoked pig was the result of a house burning down, so goes the tale.

Let us know what you got, and we’ll see if we can work with it. You ought to get a first smoke behind you before taking on a prime rib.

Well, I don’t know if I’m up to it Paddy, Heck I ain’t smoked nothing for well nigh on a week now, if’n I remember keerectly! I might be a wee bit rusty! (no offense meant to you, Rusty…old friend!) But I reckon you can sign me up! Gives me just about enough time to rustle up some good mustard seeds (so’s I can make my own, and get aholt of some high grade horseradish root for that bark! Yep…sounds like a plan! I b’lieve I’m up to the challenge! Let’s do ’er!
