• • An Emmy nominated actor and Grammy nominated singer (who was discovered at age 13 by Gospel great Mahalia Jackson), Della Reese started her career in the late 1950s as a successful jazz singer, best known for her hit single "Don't You Know" [1959] — — a melody taken from an aria in Puccini's "La Bohème" [Musetta's waltz].
