Russia...........
The Russian Bear coming back bothers me.....
I am among other things what is sometimes called a "Cold Warrior".....that is, most of my service was during the cold war.....I even had a course in Foreign Navy Studies - Warsaw Pact.....
This invasion is on ground, and is targeted at controlling both the main east-west highway and also the oil pipeline.....but if we are not very careful, the Russians will push to the coast, giving them access - again - to Black Sea ports.....
Fortunately, the Russian blue water navy is in serious disreapir and has trouvle putting ships to sea.....with only a few exceptions, such as the Typhoon Class submarine (only one left).....the carrier they had and I believe both of the 30,000 ton class battlecruisers are unable to put to sea reliably.....
We saw T-72 tanks withdrawing on the news.....I asked myself, what about all the T-82 tanks? Did they use only older tanks? Given the basic status of Georgian forces, that may well have been adequate.....
But what now?
Persoanl opinion, BASED ON HISTORY.....
NATO needs to stand up and tell the Russians.....withdraw or start shooting.....NOT the desirable action, but the only way to back them down.....but NATO has to actually be willing to commit forces.....
BUT.....
Georgia is NOT a member of NATO, neither is Ukraine which is the likely next target.....
But maybe it is time to simply put a peg in the sand, regardless of membership, to avoid another Iron Curtain.....

What are your hobbies....I love to quilt. I learned to sew when I was young and used to make my own clothes. I embroider and have learned ribbon embroidery. I like to paint and draw....crochet, knit, make cards....stamping, you name it.....I bet I have done it so what do you like to do?
