The video would not play but yes I do remember Radio Caroline. Boy you come up with some good ones.
I used to go to sleep with my transister radio (it was big) under my pillow listening to Radio Luxenberg. That was only on in the evenings. Anyway there was nothing else on the BBC except for the armed forces network on Sundays and top of the pops that drove my Dad nuts.
Radio Caroline was a life line to us kids.......our music and a pirate radio too make it worse haha...loved it.
Thanks for the memories

The video played for me. Oh wow does that bring back memories! Sitting in my bedroom listening to Radioes Caroline, London and Luxemburg because mum wouldn't let us listen to that 'rubbish' downstairs. One of the girls at school brought a transistor radio in and getting caught listening to 'illegal' radio stations. Sometimes when you look back don't you wish the world was as innocent now as it seemed to be then?

Does it seem like we had more fun as well..........what ever happened to dating. Looking at my granddaughters...they all just "hang out" the boys dont pick them up and go somewhere, dont take them out............seems like its all what we called "Dutch" these days. No anticipation of a date because they see them all the time and never "go out"
So...........the music is on Ipods and phones and they are on the darn phones non stop even when with their friends. They phone each other in the middle of the night and text.
Yes....I know I had more fun.

Oh yes and remember when we worked all week in anticipation of going out on friday and saturday nights? We went to dances or down the pub for darts matches and pool games and to the matinee at the pictures on sunday cause there was nothing else open. Very few people had home phones so to talk to your sweetie you had to walk to the phone box! And drugs....you take drugs?....get the hell away from me! The last bus home was at 10:35 and you had better be on that bus or else! When I tell my grand daughters that their dads had to be home by 10pm on a school night or midnight friday and saturday they look at me as though i'm a crazy woman!!

The Radio system in England was the BBC and later BBC1......they did not play what kids wanted and so, along came the pirates. We listened to Radio Luxenberg. That only came on at night though......so....enjoy this video

How fascinating. I have always wondered anyway, how many television and radio stations you have? And are they all controled by the government or not? We have too many and a great deal of what is on television and radio is nothing more than trash. A steady diet would rot a person's brain. I will have to make a point to see the Pirate RAdio movie.

I wonder how true the movie will be?.......I will have to see it just because I remember what an impact it had. I mean all we had prior to that was Radio Luxemberg. It faded in and out but was the best shot we had at hearing anything modern. The BBC just did not play the rock and roll except on Sundays when I could listen to the Forces radio requests. We were sooooo deprived haha.....transister radios.....and Luxenberg did not come on (different time zones) till late so it was sort of pirate radio for us as we were supposed to be in bed haha.
When Radio caroline hit the air waves it was a breath of fresh air. They sat outside the 3 mile limit in international waters so nothing could be done at first. Then a 2nd pirate radio started up (cant remember the name) but nothing made the same impact as Caroline.
Did you know you had to have a licence to have a radio and a TV in England. No one thought anything of it really, just one of those things one complained about. Did we have to have a bicycle licence? cant remember. Anyway it was no big deal. Do they still exist?

Wow, I had forgotten about Radio Luxemberg, but yes, it sure does bring back many memories.!! My best friend and I used to listen every tuesday night to the Armed Forces Radio station and we would write in requests to be played, and would you believe it, Nick Clooney was the radio DJ. I don't have to tell you who his son is???? Or do I? Anyway, we always signed ourselves "The Goodtime Charlies." Our favorite song at that time was June Christie's "Willow Weep For Me," but we did ask for other songs to be played too and our requests were granted.!!!! Nick Clooney was in the armed forces at that time, and stationed in Germany. I wonder if he would remember us if we got the chance to ask him? Yes, his son is THE GEORGE CLOONEY.
