I'd like to know about some of the softer aspects of living outside the US. Medical care is important, for instance. Climate is a big factor in where I will choose to retire--no cold weather for me! How do retirees spend their time? What are the availabilities of hobbies, entertainment, and dining out? How about connecting to the rest of the world? TV, movies, Internet connections, even phone service?
I am still years away from retirement, but I once met a Canadian guy online who wanted to retire to Brazil. To get full benefits, he could only live outside Canada for 6 months of each year. What about the US? If one lives abroad year round, can one draw one's full social security benefits all year?
As long as you remain an American citizen, you can collect Social Security anywhere. If you want Medicare-paid health care, you would have to come back to the USA for treatment.
Greetings Islandvoyager,
Interested in all of the above.
Where does one begin ?
Don't have a lot of cash and most inquiries have led me to Student only circumstances.
Where do you find a great place to relocate ?
Any help at all will be appreciated.
