I'm Colleen. I've lived in Michigan almost all my adult life, after growing up as an Army brat.
I helped start one of the largest, and longest-lived food coops in the US, the 4th Avenue Peoples Food Coop, in Ann Arbor.
I bank at a coop (my local credit union), I have all my insurance through coops, and I patronize a CSA cooperative for fresh food in the summer.
I'm also the queen of shopping at local resale shops and re-use centers.
I pinch pennies 'til they scream. I know to the penny how much per serving meat will cost when it's on sale, and try to stay below 45 cents a serving for our evening meal.
I use my pantry and storage space to stock up on good deals, and spend one day a month cooking and freezing meals to be pulled out later, saving time, money, and energy (mine as well as the kind we burn).
