God's Help!

Someone had posted a message in one of the other groups about people and God in today's society. She told of a story of Billy Graham's daughter after Hurricane Katrina's devastation of the Gulf coast. The conversation was about whether or not there really is a God. If so, why would he allow something as devastating as this hurricane to occur? Billy Graham's daughter gave this reply. She stated that God is a gentleman. He never forces his presence on anyone who does not want it. He waits for us to ask him for help. The big question is how many that were affected by the hurricane actually asked God for help? How many that did ask were not answered?
Too many people are trying to go it alone in our society. This is the reason for so much discontent. Maybe we all have too much time on our hands and we use that time for meaningless attempts at happiness. The happiest people that I know are church goers. Not just those who go on Sunday because they think they should, or they were brought up that way, but people who REALLY have a God-filled existence. When you walk with God, you never walk alone.

Chatcat,
I believe God send us tests to help us (individually, societally, and on a world level) grow and develop our spiritual capacities. As a metaphor, the highly valued Samurai sword has one of the sharpest blades in the world. But for it to become so, it must first be subjected to REPEATED poundings and heatings in the fire. Now, if the metal could speak, it would probably complain about being so severely tested by such discomforts because it can't see the purpose for its suffering. But we know what the end result will be and that without the 'sufferings' the metal will never attain the degree of perfection latent within it.

So it is with mankind. Disaster tends to bring out our best spiritual qualities; it forces us to rise above our prejudices and self interests and to use our best attributes for our very survival, and in doing so, we progress. God, our Creator and Divine Physician, knows our condition, sees our various 'illnesses' and prescribes the Divine Remedy.
