More changes..HTML manager Quits due to even more
OTHER CHANGES
One of the best groups Eons
HTML WORKSHOP GROUP MANAGEMENT CHANGE!
I started the HTML Workshop group ten months ago and, in that short time, the group has grown from 1 member to well over 1,400 members...an average of 140 new members per month!
In the beginning, the eons staff was not too thrilled with the birth of the group. Suddenly, people began personalizing their eons profiles in a way that the eons staff had not anticipated.
It was posted in another group by an eons tech that eons did not support the changes in any way.
Pretty soon, the rapid growth of the group and the increased interest of members in personalizing their profiles and, in many cases, using their profiles as their "My Eons" page (since you can't personalize the My Eons page!) did not escape the attention of eons staff members.
To hop on the bandwagon, eons appeared to reverse its way of thinking and even decided to hold a contest (to be hosted by the HTML Workshop group) and gave away two iPhones as prizes for, as eons put it, the "snazziest" profiles!
NOW...
Eons has decided to reformat and rescript the site, thus removing most of the changes made by members to their profiles...gone...back to basics. The new format is in the works now and will be implemented in the near future. Formatting changes are to be expected as a site expands and improves.
When I learned of the formatting changes that are coming (I was asked to participate in a very, very limited membership private eons feedback group), I knew I would need help in starting all over and handling the many, many posts, inquiries, questions and comments on our Message Board and members that would look to the HTML Workshop when their profiles were suddenly drastically changed...I was lucky enough to get three GREAT moderators. The plan? Be ready to immediately provide solutions when the new format is suddenly here. Everyone is working hard towards that end.
THEN A FEW HOURS AGO...
Eons announces that it has opened its membership to all ages! Their claim that a "poll" of members demonstrated the majority wanted such a change is bogus. Did you participate in such a poll? They state that "a few" members might not like the change; however, the replies to a recent post ( view link ) show that more than "a few" are upset...and the news just came out hours ago...today...just now! Another MySpace is born! Yea. Right. Like that's gonna happen.
Anyway...I am not real happy with having to participate in the plans of change but being unable to tell other members what is coming (particularly new members who will work hard to learn "how to"...only to have all the rules change!). I realize the need to keep the changes under cover, but to not even tell people who sign up for a "course" that everything learned in the course will change within a few weeks is unreasonable. In reality...membership in the HTML Workshop is a "course"...isn't it?
If I leave the eons community, then I am no longer sworn to secrecy as far as I'm concerned. I'm not providing anyone access to any beta portion of the new site...I am; however, advising HTML Workshop group members that changes are coming that will require new scripting...keep that in mind when making new changes to your profiles. Also keep in mind that the moderators of this group are coming up with many solutions and new scripting for the changes to come...coming up with these new scripts and solutions on a daily progression!
Now...the "other thing"...
I am really not happy about "open membership!"
How unhappy am I?
I am suspending my active participation within the eons community and hereby ask that eons staff replace me as group manager (in strict accordance/compliance with current group Moderator recommendations) soon as a new Group Manager is assigned, elected, chosen, whatever.
I've devoted many, many great hours to the building of this group and showing members how to learn and have fun at the same time...it's been a great experience...I've never done anything like it before in my life! I will miss it; however, even if I stayed...it's just not what it was only a few short months ago. The whole community is about to experience a drastic (and as far as I'm concerned, highly negative) change.
I have notified the moderators of the group and leave it to them to discuss what they want to do.
It's been great "living" in the same community with you all! Maybe we'll see each other in another "seniors only" community...I'll be looking for one starting today!
Peace...
