I know, I'm running late...looks like lunch instead of the good ol filling breakfast! Couldn't get to sleep last nite...Brain (yes, I have one) just wouldn't shut down...Dogs were not happy about it either...Cause I got up and played with puter...I got dirty looks from all. Can you imagine?
First thing I did was go out to water the chickyducks. Poor critters, it's been a rough week for all of them... So very cold...but they made it through! I sat on the back steps and watched the sky and the gray clouds moving in from the south-west. Had my coffee in one hand and cigar in the other, You know how it is when you are awake but your motor's not running yet? Well, that's where I was...at peace with the world. It was not to last.
Minding my own business, so to speak, I am suddenly beset by critters playing doggy tag. I must have be the "safety zone". Here comes Spudly, (he's IT for the day) charging up the steps trying to get behind me. Big red dog in hot pursuit... Big red grabs Spuds by the tail and stops dead in her tracks. Spud stops just a quickly! Now, Spud is a sturdy little dog and carries some weight but he's no match for the big girl. Tug of war going on right next to me...Well, guys and gals...I cracked up and almost fell off the steps...Here I am in the middle of nowhere having an hysterical fit. Good thing I don't have close neighbors..People around here think I am eccentric (read nuts) and they are right. lolol But, I do have the best time!
Oh gee, yesterday was a crazy day...I didn't work this hard when I had a job. I tripped over a leaderless group yesterday.. Retired Veterans and Feds...Asked for the group and I received it...I found that VNV, WHVV and the RV&F's have many members in common...This is a good thing...much needed info can be found more easily now. Each group has its own 'flavor' and this is also a good thing. What I do know for sure is we need a way to list the names of the buddies and pals that served with you. An " if you served at..., I am trying to find ...." that type of thing...Anybody have any ideas? Send them my way...
Mimpops puter crashed the other day and he is finally back on line...Mimpop is our chaplain...and a good man...He's just a little weird (even by my standards) but I do trust him...gotcha mimpop! lolol
Any how, I need to get busy posting this thing. Now, if I get confused and don't post in one group and two or more in another, let me know...When I need more than one hand to count on, I can get in really bad trouble!
Welcome home dear hearts, welcome home! the emom welcomes you with open arms and a warm heart...hugs to you and yours...the emom

Welcome home dear hearts, welcome home. Huggies. Get in here and close the door...Sheesh, it's cold out there again. Get over there by the stove and warm up. This is the stangest winter I can ever remember...sleet, snow, freezing rain, hail, and tornados in the same week! The storm gods came out to play with a vengeance Tuesday nite.
It was a ring-dinger of a nite up here on the mountain. A tree came down across the road, blocking the road. Guys from the neighborhood cut it into sections and cleared the road..Power was out all over...and in two different locations, trees took out the phone lines...mine with it! So far as I have heard, no one locally was injured. Damage seems to have been confined to old sheds and roof damage to some of the old barns.
That being said, I now have a rather large dog house in the middle of the back yard. Furniture has been rearranged on the back porch, a two seater canvas chair is frozen into the pond and stuff that was under the back porch is now scattered all over the south eastern section of the property. Wowser, that's all I need...more pick up, clean up...lolol It could have been so much worse but I have a sturdy lil house that seems to love me...
What else...oh yeah...the biggie! The juveniles and younger adults! I have pondered on that for two days now. I think a perfect solution would be for eons to take on the juvies and keep them in a separated section. Then when the younger ones reach the age of 49, transfer them to the older group and still allow them to go back to younger group with some kind of code or something. The youngers would still be kept to themselves...I can see some problems with this in a way but it might be a better solution than just dumping the youngers in with the olders in one fell swoop. The youngers could then supply eons with the needed revenue. The new Betamember site would be the ideal place for the youngers...
For the time being, I am not changing the status of my groups for privacy...I am leaving them as is. I have received messages asking to keep them the same. And so I will. Status can always be changed at any time in the future.
Any way, dear hearts, lay back for a while and see what falls from the tree...I like where I am and what I am doing here on Eons, so I plan to stay & play for a while longer.
So far, I have only had a request from one member to be taken out of one group. I did send a message asking that person to give it a chance..to stay for a while longer. Hope he stays...a lot of changes going on lately and sometimes they are hard to keep up with. I don't know about anybody else but once I get settled in for the long haul, I am not always happy if somebody rearranges the 'furniture'.
The phone lines didn't come up until 1700 hours or there abouts, so I have missed some of the latest misadventures. Maybe, I'll catch up today...then again maybe I won't...lol
Welcome home dear ones, welcome...hugs and much love from the emom

Well, it looks like another bad weather day. So, get your buns in here and get something to eat before the elec goes out...that or the phone again! Do you have your rain gear handy...good! I see the winds have swung around to the SSW and the clouds are really traveling...
I keep forgetting to remind everybody...If you want one of your posts deleted, just contact the manager or moderator in that particular group and let them know.
IN MEMORIUM~~~
Welcome home, dear heart, welcome home to
John Thomas Ogden, US Army, who served our country in Korea. Be at ease, go safely and rest in peace.
Keeping this short this morning because of weather conditions here in the mountains..

OK, get in here...close the door...Grumble, mumble, didn't get enuf sleep last nite...Dogs barking at wild critters...Coffee's hot...You all know where everything is in here...help self...hmmm! Fresh fruits over there in the bowl...Coffeeeeee!
Aaah yes, wonderful...second cup always makes the difference...well, most of the time.
Welcome home, dear hearts, welcome home. Be at ease, you are among the very ones who have been there and understand. You are safe here and I welcome you with open arms and warm heart.
Gee, where to start...yesterday was another wowser. I worked less hours before I retired. But it's been interesting and has really sharpened the old brain! (Believe that and I will be forced to tell you about this gold brick I am selling)
I volunteered to be manager for the group Drawing and Painting. Well, God love em, they accepted me. At least they didn't ride me out of town on a rail...lololol not yet anyway...! No, I've belonged to D&P for quite a while now and they are all good people.. creative as all get out. Thank you, dear ones, for letting me help in this troubled period.
And a shame on me for not mentioning this guy... TCornish is our Veterans Affairs man in two groups, VNV & WHVV, and has been keeping our veterans updated on changes and system improvements in the Veterans Administration. Atta boy, TC...thank you!
Davida53, a fairly new member of VNV, has been posting varied and interesting articles, from funny to informative...be sure and check him out.
Bigthoughts, from RM&F, is another one to read. He likes the old cartoon humor of Willy and Joe...(I hope those names are right, I can't read my own notes).
I sent CommunityGal a bottle of aspirins...Methinks she is going to need it! gotcha! lolol
Marvin, my anonymous buddy from CA, is off playing in the casinos out west somewhere...I sure hope he at least breaks even...he gets really grumpy when he doesn't win or if I don't get a copy of the News out! Sheesh what a grouch! (whisper: he's really a teddy bear tho, but don't tell him I said that)
The sun is up and I do believe it's gonna be a glorious day...Sunrise this morning was spectacular!
Clear blue sky and the kind of whispy clouds they used to call 'mares tails'...all golds and rosy colors.
Guess that's it for the day...maybe...lolol
Welcome home, dear ones, welcome home...There is always a light here to guide you and my door is always open...
Hugs and much love to all of mine...the emom

Welcome dear hearts, welcome. Come on in and set a spell. Everything is hot and ready to eat...how bout them waffles, butter and real home made maple syrup. What? Them don't have no calories. Would these lovely green eyes make somethin' like that up? Oh Yeah! lolol
I have the giggles already this mornin'...Been playing with the printer and trying to transfer a photo to 'my' photos...I finally made it but I have no idea how I did it...lolol Hope it works.

Now, I have to tell you that the gals last nite were talking about picturing me as a real 'mountain woman'. Well, the above photo, Company coming, is a sample of a regular occurance where I live. LoL I was just lucky this critter wasn't in the roadway.
Another thing you see in the mountains are signs stating 'FALLEN ROCKS'! Not falling rocks. Fallen is exactly what they mean! Rocks as big as a house, quite literally, often shear off the mountain side and land in the roadway! Now, if you are traveling at a high rate of speed, come around a blind curve and find a 'house' sitting in the road, you have three choices.
One, you drive to the right, go off the road into a ravine (holler) and drop a good 50 feet and roll the rest of the way to the bottom.
Two, you can drive right into the boulder in the road and come to a very sudden stop...Boulder ain't gonna move or...
Three, you can run into the side of the mountain. This one is the best of the three choices...You will still come to a sudden stop but at least they will find you in a day or two.
I love my mountains...I am so happy here!
This had best be it for today. I still can't figure out how many lines/characters a photo takes up. Maybe one of these days...Nah, that's just wishful thinking on my part...
Welcome home dear hearts, welcome home...the door is always open, the coffee is always fresh and hot and toast is only seconds away.
Huggies and much love to all of mine...the mountain loving emom

Hey all, come on out to the back porch! Welcome home dear ones, welcome home. My gosh, it is warm out here..in the high 50's already. Grab your plate and your coffee and come on out! Isn't this wonderful? There's plenty of chairs and there's a whole bunch of snack trays just by the door.
Just listen to Romeo crowing...that boy loves the emom...lolol... he hears my voice and starts romancing me...Actually, I bribed him early on with lemon cookies and now I am his Juliet! Oh dear, wait! Shoo, get off the porch! Somebody grab the gate for me while I hold the dogs back! Ah, thank you!
I love my dogs but they can be a pain sometimes... They seem to think that any two legged critter coming in the door is a new play toy meant just for them... and you guys and gals haven't helped a bit! I saw you giving them snacks under the table...lolol
It's ok tho...I just might have done that myself once or twice...lololol
Lilyputz, the little unmade bed...yes, that's the one, suffers from terminal cuteness. She is a con artist and will absolutely charm you out of your last bite of food. And Newbie is almost as bad...all 80 lbs of him...looks at you with them big sad brown eyes and your heart melts. And you know what? He has 6 toes on each hind foot...working toes. So did Big white dog...hmmmm?
I am tickled to death with him...He is very sweet natured but he has no manners at all. He has learned to sit...bribery again works wonders...we are working on the word 'off' and this one is slow going. He wants to get on my lap...Can you say: OOOF!?!
All the critters are getting along well. Just a few minor grumbles to start the day because now Newbie knows his place in the pecking order. What's it been, two weeks? He's not into the doggy tag game yet but it's only a matter of time. Big Red was after Spudley again...She does like to put a sudden halt to Spud by grabbing his tail and putting on her brakes...Poor Spud...lolol. There he goes again, toenails over teacups, down the slope! They are too funny to watch and now I gots the giggles!
The ice on the pond has finally melted...need to go down there and drag the two seater out while it is thawed. That two seater has been in the pond nearly as often as I have...I am so graceful... Sometimes my feet slide out from under me and off I go for a short dip. I fall in all the time...The goldfish are so familiar with me now that they call me by my first name...lolol
Did you enjoy the waffles? Hot maple syrup? It went over so well yesterday, I had to make them again.
Guess that's it for today...
Welcome home all of mine, welcome. Be at ease, enjoy, be safe among your companions who understand. The emom loves you and cares.

Breakfast on the porch this morning...How bout this weather! Can you believe it is 64 at this hour of the morning in February?
Welcome home dear hearts welcome home. Hugs from the emom. Close the gate behind you there... it's the only way to eat in peace. Love my dogs but they can be a real pain sometimes...lolol
Well, let's see...Remind me never to volunteer again! I know better, did it anyway and got into a huge messy battle! Won't go into details but it was a ring-dinger! Garyjames joined the fray and covered my back! I owe you big time, boss man! I won't forget!
A funny from yesterday...per the Boss man, I do much better with guys carrying M-16's than people carrying paints and brushes...lolol I am forced to agree! Statement is too true and very funny! I worked with vets way too long! The attitude is always "let's cut the bull sh*t, and get the job done"
What else...Oh, Newbie is now one of the wrecking crew! He was allowed to play doggy tag with the others yesterday! And I have reached the conclusion that he is not one year old yet. I am finding things all over the yard that he has drug in from the surrounding territory. How bout a purse, a shoe, a pair of sweat pants, an old rag about the size of a sheet, tin cans and plastic bottles? I wish he would be really useful and find a stash of money! Probably be marked stolen bills with my kind of luck...lol Anyway, I did get some of the stuff picked up until it started raining.
LOLOL...still tickled after the chat box session last nite with KK, BG and Annie! Annie did it again! I can't tell you what she said cause it would probably get us banned, not just in Boston, but in the whole USA. You go ANNIE! lolol
More coffeeeee! Ah thank you! Toast? yup, think I will!
I see the fog is starting to roll in...gonna be bad driving thru the lowlands this morning...Sometimes it gets so thick you can't see the front of your car.
Sun is not up yet and the sky is heavy with clouds. I really enjoy setting on the porch when it is raining.
The most calming and peaceful sound I know is the sound of a gentle rain falling on the tin roof...
Welcome home my dear ones, welcome. Be at ease, share and find comfort here among others who have been there and understand.. hugs the emom

The Right to Sit at a Desk
Back in September of 2005, on the first day of school, Martha Cothren, a social studies school teacher at Robinson High School in Little Rock , did something not to be forgotten.
On the first day of school, with the permission of the school superintendent, the principal and the building supervisor, she removed all of the desks out of her classroom.
When the first period kids entered the room they discovered that there were no desks.
Looking around, confused, they asked, 'Ms. Cothren, where're our desks?' She replied, 'You can't have a desk until you can tell me what you have done to earn the right to sit at a desk!'
They thought, 'Well, maybe it's our grades.'
'No,' she said.
'Maybe it's our behavior.'
She told them, 'No, it's not even your behavior.'
And so, they came and went, the first period,
second period, third period. Still no desks in the classroom.
By early afternoon television news crews had started gathering in Ms. Cothren's classroom to report about this crazy teacher who had taken all the desks out of her room.
The final period of the day came and as the puzzled students found seats on the floor of the deskless classroom, Martha Cothren said, 'Throughout the day no one has been able to tell me just what he/she has done to earn the right to sit at the desks that are ordinarily found in this classroom.
Now I am going to tell you.'
At this point, Martha Cothren went over to the door of her classroom and opened it.
Twenty-seven (27) U.S. Veterans, all in uniforms, walked into that classroom, each one carrying a school desk. The Vets began placing the school desks in rows, and then they would walk over and stand alongside the wall.
By the time the last soldier had set the final desk in place those kids started to understand, perhaps for the first time in their lives, just how the right to sit at those desks had been earned.
Martha said, 'You didn't earn the right to sit at these desks. These heroes did it for you. They placed the desks here for you. Now, it's up to you to sit in them. It is your responsibility to learn, to be
good students, to be good citizens. They paid the price so that you could have the freedom to get an education. Don't ever forget it.'
This is a true story....
If you can read this - thank a teacher!
If you can read it in English - thank an American soldier!
Thank you Mimpop, dear heart and welcome home to all of mine...Welcome home the emom

Hey there young'uns...Welcome home dear hearts, welcome home! Come on in, foods ready and the coffee is hot! Cooled off some since yesterday and the wind has finally died down.
Ya know, there is an old Chinese saying..."Be careful for what you ask; the gods may grant it!" Well, I asked and the 'gods' granted. Then they followed up with the 'laws of unintended results'. lol I asked for a big dog and received Newbie.
Newbie stayed in last nite, all nite...Now, that might not sound like much but he has always been an outside dog. Not house broken but there were no accidents. He slept in the kitchen all by himself. The rest of the crew were in here in the bedroom. All was quiet when I finally got to sleep early this morning.
I'll give him this, Newbie is a sneaky feller. Sometime over nite, he came back here and stole my fleeced lined boots...the ones I wear all day, every day...and carried them out to the kitchen!
Guess what greated me when I got up this morning? Aw, you guessed! Oh yeah, there were my toasty warm boots on the floor with chunks of boots scattered all over the kitchen! One boot was not touched but the other one has been mangled almost to the unwearable stage...I'll get the box cutter out sometime today and even them up...Me and them boots have spent many years together... Ain't gonna throw them away just yet! My fault it happened...Newbie is a lot younger than I thought and I did leave the boots down where he could get to them! I know better but I did it anyway. Duh, emom!
Another terrible thot comes to mind...if Newbie is that young, he is still growing and wont stop growing until he is two! OMG, I think I am in real trouble here...!
What else is going on...? Oh yeah, I'm gonna set up a CB radio station up here on the mountain side. It will be a mobile unit on a power pack with a copy stick...If the power and the phone lines go out, I can still hook it up to a regular car battery. Then, I get my ham unit programmed and I will be in business. What kind of business, I am not sure yet. I will probably end up monitoring channel 9, the emergency freq, up here too.
Let's see... Dianna made the front page...atta girl Di. Dispatchdebbie has written a couple of very informative articles about dispatcher training for 911 Emergency Dispatchers.
AND TA DAH! KK has added a chat box to The Lighter Side of Oldies Music. A chat box is sort of like IM. Gots to watch KK, BG and Annie go to town on a chat box...lolol I always end up on the floor with the giggles...they do make the most spectacular typos and mis-statements I have ever read.
Hmm...Becky has gotten her frozen pipes replaced and she is moving into her new quarters this week.
El has been out buying and swapping for new goats.
Pogo is getting married this month and I have so much stuff to get done around here.
Welcome home dear ones welcome to mine. Hugs to all of you and much love...go in safety...emom

Welcome home, dear hearts, welcome home! Come on in for a late breakfast...Everything's hot and ready. Fresh made bisuits, home made jam...all made with NO calories.. Hugs all...get your self served and lets go set on the back porch again. It's a beautiful day, sun shining and just a little bit hazy. You know, if we are lucky, a few clouds may develope and my flyboys will come out to play for a while...
Any body want a dog? How about 6 dogs? How about one dog who takes up the space of 6 and has an appetite like 12? lolol
Last nite late, I heard some strange sounds and thumps issuing from the kitchen. OH OH! I'd better go check...Walked into kitchen...OMG! The thumping sounds were explained by the fact my snake boots were in the middle of the floor instead of by the back door where I usually keep them. The newspaper had been shredded all over and mixed in with a roll of toilet paper and bright red Christmas wrapping paper...Can you say: confetti? When I cleaned up that disaster, I came back to the bedroom...Newbie, who had been looking completely innocent, followed me. Sorry, Newbie, you are guilty by default...the rest of the gang were here in the bedroom, zonked out for the nite.
So, I am back here trying to catch up on things when out of the corner of my eye, I catch a slight motion. Newbie is now trying to steal things from the other end of puter table top...Newbie and I make eye contact...he looks so innocent but the emom knows he is up to no good! and he knows I know! Well, I cracked up...he did a gotcha on the emom! That dog is an imp, a rascal, the terrible twos at their worst! When I got my old comfy nitegown out to get ready for bed, I suddenly had a tug of war on my hands. Oh LOOK! Emom has started a new game! Wowser, lets everybody get in on the action! Now I am in the middle of a doggy game of tag and gotcha! A free for all in the bedroom at midnite! It was so much fun...lolol
Oh, we have a new contributor to the news. Starting this coming Sunday, there will be a special section in the Mountain News. A weekly article of thoughts, ideas and feelings from an uncomplicated man...a very good man by the name of Norsmen. Welcome aboard, dear heart.
And a big hug and lots of thank you's to KK. She down loaded a chat box for the guys/gals in the 911ED group...Thank you dear one...I would say she is a good person, but I won't...lolol Gotcha kk!
Welcome home all of mine...welcome home. Hugs and much love to you and yours...the emom
