Obama

Hi everyone,
I am glad this site was setup and thanks!
Please, this is not said with malaise or anger but with weariness of my country, yes, my country; no, black voters are not voting for Obama because he is black, they are voting because he is qualified, to state we would vote just because he is black does not give us much credit as intelligent, educated people and quite frankly is an insult. I am black and a woman and have voted since I was of age and follow it closely because it's outcome affect my life, we have had a few black candidates before and I have not voted for them because I felt THEY were not qualified for what I wanted in my life at the time. If the american public let a few turn this into a racial issue, we will again miss an opportunity for a great change in this country.
When? When? will we see each other for our character, can any of you say all the presidents that have been elected before has been good presidents, we elected them based on what they promised at the time. it should be the same this time, so please weigh the issues, how will what the candidates say affect your life, ask them, and then hold them accountable after they are elected and remember this is the world we will leave for our children and grandchildren. what part will you play?
Obama is a candidate that will serve for ALL americans, is it not time?
Haven't there been enough divide? If blacks are not consider just Americans yet? when will we be?

I will be voting for Obama ... and I am not black. I really don't think of him as black or any other color I think of him as the candidate who meets most of what I am seeking in a president.

Likewise when I evaluated Hillary I did not allow myself to think of her as a woman candidate. She is, to me, the least likely to ever get my vote even though I would love to see a woman elected as President of the United States.

As for those saying that Blacks will vote for Obama just because he is black is a terrible misjudgment of the intelligence of our Black American population. It also says something about those who say this!

Well, I've heard the same thing about Hillary - that women will vote for her just because she is a woman! I'm a woman, and I'M not going to vote for her.

I am still not certain what either of those candidates offer in the way of solutions to end our country's problems.

My first choice is still Mitt Romney but if he doesn't win then I hope Obama gets it. Unfortunately, I do know women who will vote for Hillary just because she's a women. Sad!

I am a registered democrat, but I don't vote for any specific party, if I agree with the candidate I will vote for that person. I have the utmost respect for Mccain, but he's a soldier at heart and I feel that he will keep the war going because he feels that if we withdraw, we are surrendering. I like Obama, Clinton and Edwards. I think Edwards will be out of the race soon. That leaves Clinton and Obama. I think Mrs. Clinton's experience is a plus for her and I feel she is truly dedicated to this country, although she might come accross as abrasive, she knows from where she speaks. and then there is Obama, young and fresh and we need new blood in Washington. So as of now I can't make up my mind.

Great observations Monty5. I doubt that every black American is voting for Obama because he's black, but to think that some aren't wouldn't be accurate either. I totally believe that many women will vote for Clinton just because she's a woman, but many will vote for her because they believe she's the right person for the job.

I agree that black people in this country need to be considers just plain old Americans, but using the term African-American doesn't promote that either.

Obama, like all the candidates has some good ideas...but, his stand on illegal immigration removes him from my list.

I agree. Obama is a very tallented and very likable person. I do not see colour here, its what he stands for. I dont think that people are going to vote for him based on his colour. The issues are what matter and new ideas. Hillary being a woman is besides the point as well, she would make a good leader.
On the points that they are weak on, they have to appoint good advisors. To not vote for someone based on one issue limits your choices. I dont think there will ever be a person that you agree with everything they believe. Just because they want to change things does not mean that they can do so either. Realistic is what we need to be

"...to state we would vote just because he is black does not give us much credit as intelligent, educated people and quite frankly is an insult."

Glad to read your take on this is so much like mine. However, all groups have their small minded people and I certainly have to believe that there are a number of blacks voting Race politics, rather than what is best for the Nation. There's lotsa groups encouraging this.

My take on Obama (or most any Democrat) is very different than yours. I wouldn't vote for him on a bet; I'm White. If Clarence Thomas, however, were running for prez (instead of sitting on the court) I'd crawl over a pile of broken glass to vote for him in this upcoming election.

Can't endorse your take on Obama, but thank you for pointing out how really small minded it is to vote Race instead of substance. Wish everyone understood this.
